At the Movies.

Kept active with an early morning run, and then a quick trip to Bethany Lakes and caught a Bass.

Closed out the day by taking in a movie. Watched the movie "Knowing". Not sure why it made number one this past weekend. Preferred "I Love You Man" over it.

Posted reviews of both movies on our movie review blog. Check it out some time.

March 24, 2009 - Quick Trip to Bethany

Made a quick trip to Bethany Lakes between the rain showers and fished the Upper Pond (horseshoe-shaped pond). Caught a 12" Bass flyfishing an Olive Wooly Bugger. Had another strike but was too slow in setting the hook. Fish were active; just did not have enough time to fish it thoroughly. (Note: The spot on its eye is a leaf). March 22, 2009 - Russell Creek Park in Plano

Fished Russell Creek Park in Plano this morning. Cool morning with temperatures in the mid-50s and cloudy skies. Caught three Bass ranging 10" to 11" in size. Had several other strikes but failed to set the hook. Used flyfishing gear to work the shallows to about 20 yards out.

All were caught using an Olive Wooley Bugger with one Bass caught less that a yard from the bank. The other two struck at about 10 yards from the bank.

No bruisers today but still fun! Click-on DFW Fishing News for more fishing information in the Metroplex area. Or, go to Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing - Community Lakes for trout fishing information on community lakes in the area.

Russell Creek Park in Plano

Fished Russell Creek Park in Plano this morning. Caught 3 small Bass ranging 10" to 11" in size. No bruisers but still fun. Did get "attacked" by a couple of Muscovy Ducks while fishing. Suspect I was near a nest when one decided to nip at my ankle. Will post fish pictures/details on our weblog shortly.

Beware of Ducks!

March 20, 2009 - First Day of Spring.

Kicked off the first day of Spring with a morning quick trip to Bethany Lakes. Caught a 12.5" Bass in the Upper Pond and an 11" Bass and a Bluegill in the Lower Pond.
All were caught flyfishing an Olive Wooly Bugger in shallow water. Fish were more active compared to yesterday. Looks like the impact of yesterday's cool front has passed. Brief Update @ Bethany Lakes.

Fished Bethany Lakes this morning and caught 2 Bass and a Bluegill flyfishing. More surface activity compared to yesterday. Looks like yesterday's cool front slowed the action temporarily. Will post pics on our weblog later. Good luck and good fishing!

No Hook Ups Today.

Fished Bethany Lakes Lower and Upper Ponds without success. Tried Bethany Ridge Park Pond without success. Went down the street to Bethany Creek Pond without success.

Decided to try Bethany Lakes Upper Pond again. Nada! Fish were not as active as the other day. Gonna have to try again later. No hook ups today.

Bethany Creek Pond - Bass

Received a report from one of our weblog readers on the fishing activity at Bethany Creek Pond - a neighborhood pond located east of Bethany Lakes.
Caught a 16.5" Bass using an artificial minnow. Hooked two others about the same size but did not land them. All were caught/observed near the bridge. Also, used a "fuzzy bugger" but the fish were not interested.

Olive Wooly Bugger continues to produce at Bethany Lakes with a few scrappy Bass caught this evening. More details on the weblog.

March 17, 2009 - St. Patrick's Day Bass

Fished Bethany Lakes this St. Patrick's Day evening for another try at Bass. Fished the Lower Pond without success, and then moved to the Upper Pond (horseshoe-shaped) without a strike. Decided to try elsewhere. While leaving for another spot, noticed fish actively feeding in the shallows. Stood fast and cast an Olive Wooly Bugger and immediately started getting strikes. Caught 5 Bass ranging from 10" to 12"; lost another Bass in about the same size range; and then had a decent strike but no hook-up on a larger Bass. All were caught flyfishing and in a 30 minute timeframe from when they started feeding in the shallows to when the bite stopped. Suspect they were chasing baitfish! March 15, 2009 - Only One But...

Fished Bethany Ridge Park near Kroger. No bites. Crossed the street to Bethany Lakes and had a few light strikes flyfishing an Olive Wooly Bugger. And then, hooked into one that went 19.5" and weighed 4 lbs. Only one this trip but it turned out to be a personal best Bass on a fishing fly!
