September 27, 2009 - One Duck in the Flock!

Made it out to the lake for the last day of Early Teal Season. Teal were moving in the early morning but only one came within range and buzzed the decoys at first light.

Watched others skirting the trees along the shore with one flock heading to a group of hunters. From the shots, it sounded like they connected.

Well past light, a flock of five Teal came out of nowhere, eyed the decoys, and then cupped their wings and came into the set in line with the Roboduck. Managed to bag one - a Green Winged Teal!

Had several more chances but was too slow, not accurate, moon and stars were not aligned. Bottom-line: Shoot one duck in the flock....

One Little Bass and Two Bluegill

After a morning run, fished Bethany Lakes. Caught a little Bass and two Bluegill on an Olive Wooley Bugger. Fast retrieve was the key this morning. Slight Delay in Posting Updates.

Slight delay in posting updates. Been scouting for ducks and trying to bag Teal this season. Was out at Lavon yesterday in the late afternoon and evening. No luck but saw a beautiful sunset and some Bruiser Carp working the shallows.

What a sunset! (Courtesy of Duck Hunting Field Notes).

Out and About Without Success Save for a Drain Pipe!

Out and about today. Checked out the Elm Fork at Sandy Lake Road and McKinnish Park in Coppel. No luck but area looks promising.
Returned to Allen and caught a "not so healthy" Bass in the drainage pipe at Bethany Ridge Park. Released the Bass to the main area. Had a blind eye and skinny body for its 16" size. Hope it makes it. Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.

Bass in the Shadows at Bethany this Morning.

Fished Bethany Lakes this Sunday morning. Caught three Bass on an Olive Wooley Bugger. Tried the Olive Damsel Fly, a Black Wooley Bugger, and a Grasshopper Imitation. Bass were not interested. Overall Bass seemed content to lurk in the shadows instead of strike a lure. Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.

September 19, 2009 - Late Afternoon Hunt for Teal, Saw Action But None Bagged!

Late afternoon hunt for Teal started slow but picked up the last 10" of legal shooting hours. Was calling it a day and decided to load up the boat and head back to the boat ramp. Big mistake!

Had two flocks buzz overhead while picking up decoys. Took a passing shot but did not connect. Hopefully the cool front forecasted later in the week will bring more action!

Rainy Morning.... Caught 18 Bass on an Olive Wooley Bugger

Decided to put on rain gear and fish Bethany Lakes. Good thing because the fish were on the prowl. Caught eighteen Bass on an Olive Wooley Bugger and only lost one Bass while landing it this time. Mostly little Bass but two did go 13+" in size.
FYI: While walking back to the car, was confronted by a feisty Crawdad crossing the sidewalk. So wet, the Crawdads are using the sidewalks! Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.

Russel Creek Park Pond and Dragonflies?

Checked out Russell Creek Park Pond in Plano this morning. Caught a Sunfish, two Bass, and a Bluegill on fishing flies. Did see a number of Bass (looked like 1 to 2 pounders) feeding on the Dragonflies hovering over the water's surface. They were leaping completely out of the water. Too bad, I did not have a fishing fly that could simulate a Dragonfly hovering a foot above the water! Click-on COAF Fishing Leader Board to checkout top fish caught this year by our readers.
