Chartreuse Powerbait Worked Tonight!

Another go at Bethany Lakes for Trout after work! Fishing buddy and I limited out in less than an hour using Chartreuse Powerbait. Tasty meals tonight!

Had stopped by in the morning and had a couple of hits on a Gold Super Duper and a Silver Super Duper. Did see others catching them on Chartreuse Powerbait and on Bread!

Overall, looks as if the Chartreuse was the ticket today!

Powerbait Continues To Produce Limits This Evening!

Made it to the Bethany Lakes after work. It was well after dark when a fishing buddy and I arrived. Luckily, the action was steady, taking a 5-limit each in an hour.

Used both Orange and Chartreuse Powerbait (Trout Bait) fished with a BB Split Shot and Size 14 Baitholder Hook on the bottom.  Three were caught on Orange, remainder on Chartreuse.

Did try Bread and Corn without a hit; observed another group fishing with Cheese. No hits either. Best bet is to stick with Powerbait for now.

Note:  Check of stomach contents resulted in the following:
  • 4 Trout with Chartreuse Powerbait
  • 1 Trout with Chartreuse Powerbait and Corn
  • 2 Trout with Orange Powerbait and Corn
  • 1 Trout with Orange Powerbait
  • 1 Trout with Corn
  • 1 Trout was empty

Not Just Fishing, Took A Break, and Checked Out A Show At the Eisemann Center!

Took a break from fishing the other day and from our other addiction (jogging), and checked out a show at the Eisemann Center in Richardson.  It was a Christmas Show called "A Simply Sinatra Christmas" with Steve Lippia.  Great show, especially liked the joke Steve told!

Check it out for a chuckle or two.... see link.

Short Trip This AM, No Hits, Till Then "50 Ways To Cook Trout" and a "Summary of Lures/Baits Used for Trout"!

Stopped by Bethany Lakes this morning for a short trip.  Only there for 10" but had zero hits on a Panther Martin Inline Spinner.  Did get a tip from Zeke about an online article, "Fifty Ways to Cook Trout".  Checked it out, looks like some tasty recipes to try!

Also, for area fishermen, please feel free to send trout fishing reports to coaf.weblog@live.com; each year we collate fishing reports from our Field Team (and various sources), and then post results as general reference for our Readers.

The last one posted was earlier this week but keep checking back, we plan to post an updated "Summary of Lures/Baits Used for Trout" next week.

Field Test A Bust But Orange Powerbait Continues To Produce!

Field Test of Trout Lures did not pan out this evening at Bethany Lakes. A lot of surface activity but no hits on Gold Super Duper, Mepps Spinner, or the Panther Martin Inline Spinner. Will restart at a later date.

Switched to Orange Powerbait and limited out in about 15". Observed other limits taken on Orange Powerbait. Check of stomach contents showed, Orange Powerbait and Corn in four Trout. Remaining Trout was empty!

Fished the bottom using a BB Shot and Size 14 Baitholder Hook.

Field Test - Which Lure to Use?

Decided to restock the tackle box with Super Dupers, Mepps Spinners, and Panther Martin Inline Spinners.  Going to run a "non-scientific" field test to see which lures to use for a given pond (stocked with Trout). Have had success with them in the past.  Will let our Readers know what we discover!

Frozen Rod Guides, Another Green Trout, and At Least One Limit.

Stopped by Bethany Lakes this morning to see how the cold front impacted the pattern. Front has them lockjawed with no hits on lures or fishing flies. Only a brief outing; too cold for this Texan (rod guides were freezing up).

Returned at Noon and caught another "Green Trout" on a Superduper. And, did see one fisherman limit out using Pink/Chartreuse Powerbait!  Looks like Powerbait over lures is the key post-cold front....

PS:  Returned this evening.  Met Texas Fishing Forum's Bomber1, who limited out on Gold Superdupers.  Also, observed others catching them on Orange Powerbait and lures as well.  Had several hits on the Superduper but was not able to set the hook.  Caught one on Orange Powerbait before having to call it quits.  Stomach contents of the Trout was filled with Corn!

First Trout Flyfishing This Season For The Field Team!

Received an update from Zeke this evening. One Trout caught on the fly using an Olive Wooley Bugger. First Trout flyfishing this season for the Field Team. Great work!

Note: Posted an updated "Summary of Lures/Baits Used For Trout (dated 14 Dec'09)" like we did last Season.  Check it out, looks like Gold Superdupers and Powerbait are top producers again this year... so far!

Slow Trout Action At Noon, But Did Get a "Green Trout"

Stopped by at lunch to check out the Trout action at Bethany Lakes. A few were caught on Gold Superdupers and Roostertails, else much slower action than the morning. Did catch a "Green Trout" (Bass) on a Superduper!

No Ducks Yet... But, Three Hogs Will Do!

Having a tough time to hitting the local lake to duck hunt.  Second half of the Season started Saturday.  Was not there; hope to make it during the Holiday Break.  For now, able to take three hogs this weekend at the lease!

Trout Bite Was Sizzling At Bethany This Morning!

Trout bite was on this morning at Bethany Lakes. Things started out slow, but at 8AM, things were sizzling. Limited out in less than 15" using a Gold Superduper.

Special thanks to Texas Fishing Forum's "Knot at work's" trout fishing tip, ... cast to the middle, let the lure sink to the bottom, and retrieve slooooowly!

Not sure how long this pattern will last given the weather change tonight. For now, enjoying the moment....  FYI: Four of the five Trout had empty stomachs. One was filled with Corn.

Chartreuse in the Morning; Orange in the Afternoon!

Heard from Zeke on his afternoon trip back to Bethany Lakes to catch three more Trout to make his daily limit.

Report was favorable with Zeke getting his three.  Even better... Zeke brought his grandson who pulled in a five Trout limit!

Bottom-line:  Field Team reported three limits taken today. Chartreuse Trout Bait was the key in the morning and Orange Trout Bait in the afternoon

FYI: Stomach contents of the Trout caught today. Ones caught this morning were empty.  This afternoon's catch had three empty, four with Orange Trout Bait, and one with Orange as well as Chartreuse Trout Bait. Also, two looked to have digested "bread residue".

First Limit Of Trout for the Field Team This Season!

Field Team goes for another try for Trout at Bethany Lakes. One Field Team Member takes a limit; other Member (Zeke) caught two but missed a lot more.

Slow but steady action on Chartreuse Trout Bait. Zeke may come back later today to pull in three more to make a daily limit (if his reflexes get better being an old man)!

That said, first Trout limit taken by the Field Team this season!

One Trout On A Mepps Spinner.

Went back to Bethany Lakes this evening to try to catch a Trout using flyfishing gear. No luck but did take one on a Mepps Spinner!  Saw a few others catching them on Gold Superdupers, else action seemed slow....

Three Trout This Morning, Else Slow Action....

Hit Bethany Lakes early this morning for another go at Trout. Action was slow but steady in the morning, then tailed off to nothing by 9AM. Caught three Trout on Pink Trout Bait. Shifted to Orange Trout Bait and had three more hits but failed to land them. Key take away today: Pink Trout Bait in the morning; Orange Trout Bait in the day! At least for now....

First Trout Of the Season From the Field Team!

Went back to Bethany Lakes at Lunch; Trout Stocking happened and fish were being caught. Managed to hook and land one Trout using a Copper Superduper.

Did observe others catching them on Gold Superdupers. Also, had a nibble on Orange Trout Bait, none on Pink Trout Bait.

Gonna stop by later after work and see if we can pull in four more to hit our daily limit.

PS:  Returned after work and fished after dark.  Had a nibble on Pink Trout Bait. None on Orange Trout Bait.  Did see others take a few on Pink Trout Bait.  Once the sun set, a lot of surface activity with pods working the surface on both sides of the "horseshoe".  Should be interesting come first light tomorrow.

One Nibble for Trout, Else The Cormorant Limited Out!

Decided to fish for Trout in Mesquite this morning. Mesquite's City Lake received its Trout Stocking on 2 December and is scheduled to receive additional stockings every two weeks through March.

Cold morning with a drizzle made for tough conditions. Had one nibble, else zero Trout. Did see others - Cormorant, catching and eating their limits!

Called it quits after several hours. On the way home, made a stop at Academy (in Dallas on Forest Lane) and restocked on Trout Bait.

Found Orange and Pink; Chartreuse was out of stock. Bought Chartreuse Trout Nuggets as a back up for now. Will  be ready for them this next round!

Only One Bullhead, But Trout Stocking Next Week!

Fished Celebration Park's East Pond to test the waters. Used the same gear for Trout fishing and managed one Bullhead. Local pond, Bethany Lakes, gets its Trout stocking next Friday; hope to mix it up with them soon!

Zeke Finds an Aggie Ring!

One of our field members has been doing double duty fishing and metal detecting.  Got the word about one find.  An Aggie Ring found while searching for coins.  Even more interesting is how quickly it was returned to its owner after being lost for 5 years!
