Good News and Bad News.... Good News first, Field Team caught two limits of Trout at Bethany Lakes this morning to closeout the year. Caught them using Orange Powerbait; cleaned and cooked them soon after!
Bad News... Water Turkey showed up and have begun feeding. Cross our fingers the Trout make it through the week!

Still Worth A Try At Bethany For Trout
Fished Bethany Lakes this evening for Trout. Caught three using Orange Powerbait and Bread. Missed another eight; too slow/fast in setting the hook or lost while landing them. Bite was slow but Trout are still there. Even saw some surface activity as the sun was setting. Not sure what the next front will do to the action but it looks as if Bait over Lures is the preference. Seems as if it is still worth a try at Bethany for Trout.

Cold Temps This Morning, But LLELA's Bruisers Were Prowling!
Cold temps this morning made for a hard time getting motivated to hit the local pond. Decided to try Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area (LLELA) instead. If you are going to be cold, might as well try freezing somewhere than the usual places.
LLELA's Trout stocking are usually larger size Trout compared to the 9"-10" Stockers released in the local community lakes. Have seen some nice size Trout taken over the years. Looks like this season is maintaining the status quo....
Several Bruiser Trout were caught by area fishermen. Throw in an 18 pound Catfish to boot, and things were definitely on the upswing. It was a slow bite with only one strike on the fly using an Olive Wooley Bugger. Else, all others (Trout) were caught on Powerbait Worms!

Bethany Lakes On The Fly....
Fished Bethany Lakes for about an hour trying to catch'em on Fishing Flies. No luck; tried Black Gnats, Olive Wooley Buggers, and Mosquitos. Pattern has changed due to the front, hopefully surface action will pick up once things settle out. Did see others catching them on Bread. Slow action but looked as if a few folks limited!

Matching the Hatch To Flyfish Bethany Lakes' Trout Was Tough....
Fished this morning for Trout at Bethany Lakes. Kept working various fishing flies without a strike. Must have changed fishing flies ten times before settling in on a Black Gnat. Had several strikes but missed them. And then, set the hook on one but lost it while landing. Did have another rod baited with Powerbait; hooked and landed it without an issue. Had to call it short and left with the Trout still active on the surface.
Others were present and were catching Trout on Bread and/or Corn. Returned later in the evening. More missed strikes on the Black Gnat, else the bait of choice looked like Bread under a float!
Will see how the incoming front affects them. Hope to catch on in the near future on Dryfly....!

Evening Trip To Bethany Lakes....
Evening trip to Bethany Lakes to try to catch Trout on the fly. Had a few strikes and one hook-up on a Bead Head Olive Wooley Bugger in Size 10. But, ended with "nada" tonight when the one hook-up was lost while bringing to shore. Did see one flyfisherman catching them on a Bead Head Olive Wooley Bugger in Size 12 consistently.... Good Stuff!

Cabela's Fort Worth
Took the opportunity to stop by Cabela's while in Fort Worth today. Restocked on fishing flies, checked out the gear, took a few pictures of the fishes!
Later, stopped by Bethany Lakes in the early evening. Observed a few fishermen catching Trout on Bread. And, saw some activity with Trout feeding on the surface; flyfished for them without success.

Limits At Waterloo, Tasty Meal Back Home!
Waterloo Park in Denison continues to produce with limits being taken by a number of fishermen. Chartreuse and Orange Powerbaits worked well today. Trout were hitting almost immediately after casting. Two of us limited out in just over an hour with a lot more misses than hook-ups. Cleaned and prepared for the table, decided to broil the Trout instead of frying them. Very tasty meal!

Trout Limits at Waterloo in Denison!
Checked out Waterloo Park in Denison and two of us limited out on Trout using Chartreuse Powerbait. Others were also limiting out using Orange as well as Pink Powerbait. Did get a few nibbles on Bread, else it was all Powerbait.
Fishing buddy and I took about two hours to catch them with many missed strikes and stolen baits. However, took much less time to cook and eat them!
On the way back home, stopped by Academy in McKinney to restock on Powerbait. Been out of stock at Academy in Plano, Dallas, and Denison. Lucked out in McKinney with Powerbait in Orange Trout Bait and Chartreuse Trout Nuggets!

Chartreuse Powerbait Worked Tonight!
Another go at Bethany Lakes for Trout after work! Fishing buddy and I limited out in less than an hour using Chartreuse Powerbait. Tasty meals tonight!
Had stopped by in the morning and had a couple of hits on a Gold Super Duper and a Silver Super Duper. Did see others catching them on Chartreuse Powerbait and on Bread!
Overall, looks as if the Chartreuse was the ticket today!

Powerbait Continues To Produce Limits This Evening!
Made it to the Bethany Lakes after work. It was well after dark when a fishing buddy and I arrived. Luckily, the action was steady, taking a 5-limit each in an hour.
Used both Orange and Chartreuse Powerbait (Trout Bait) fished with a BB Split Shot and Size 14 Baitholder Hook on the bottom. Three were caught on Orange, remainder on Chartreuse.
Did try Bread and Corn without a hit; observed another group fishing with Cheese. No hits either. Best bet is to stick with Powerbait for now.
Note: Check of stomach contents resulted in the following:

Not Just Fishing, Took A Break, and Checked Out A Show At the Eisemann Center!
Took a break from fishing the other day and from our other addiction (jogging), and checked out a show at the Eisemann Center in Richardson. It was a Christmas Show called "A Simply Sinatra Christmas" with Steve Lippia. Great show, especially liked the joke Steve told!
Check it out for a chuckle or two.... see link.

Short Trip This AM, No Hits, Till Then "50 Ways To Cook Trout" and a "Summary of Lures/Baits Used for Trout"!
Stopped by Bethany Lakes this morning for a short trip. Only there for 10" but had zero hits on a Panther Martin Inline Spinner. Did get a tip from Zeke about an online article, "Fifty Ways to Cook Trout". Checked it out, looks like some tasty recipes to try!
Also, for area fishermen, please feel free to send trout fishing reports to coaf.weblog@live.com; each year we collate fishing reports from our Field Team (and various sources), and then post results as general reference for our Readers.
The last one posted was earlier this week but keep checking back, we plan to post an updated "Summary of Lures/Baits Used for Trout" next week.

Field Test A Bust But Orange Powerbait Continues To Produce!
Field Test of Trout Lures did not pan out this evening at Bethany Lakes. A lot of surface activity but no hits on Gold Super Duper, Mepps Spinner, or the Panther Martin Inline Spinner. Will restart at a later date.
Switched to Orange Powerbait and limited out in about 15". Observed other limits taken on Orange Powerbait. Check of stomach contents showed, Orange Powerbait and Corn in four Trout. Remaining Trout was empty!
Fished the bottom using a BB Shot and Size 14 Baitholder Hook.

Field Test - Which Lure to Use?
Decided to restock the tackle box with Super Dupers, Mepps Spinners, and Panther Martin Inline Spinners. Going to run a "non-scientific" field test to see which lures to use for a given pond (stocked with Trout). Have had success with them in the past. Will let our Readers know what we discover!

Frozen Rod Guides, Another Green Trout, and At Least One Limit.
Stopped by Bethany Lakes this morning to see how the cold front impacted the pattern. Front has them lockjawed with no hits on lures or fishing flies. Only a brief outing; too cold for this Texan (rod guides were freezing up).
Returned at Noon and caught another "Green Trout" on a Superduper. And, did see one fisherman limit out using Pink/Chartreuse Powerbait! Looks like Powerbait over lures is the key post-cold front....
PS: Returned this evening. Met Texas Fishing Forum's Bomber1, who limited out on Gold Superdupers. Also, observed others catching them on Orange Powerbait and lures as well. Had several hits on the Superduper but was not able to set the hook. Caught one on Orange Powerbait before having to call it quits. Stomach contents of the Trout was filled with Corn!

Slow Trout Action At Noon, But Did Get a "Green Trout"
Stopped by at lunch to check out the Trout action at Bethany Lakes. A few were caught on Gold Superdupers and Roostertails, else much slower action than the morning. Did catch a "Green Trout" (Bass) on a Superduper!
