Fished Waterloo Pond this morning in Denison. Had a slow start due to the "Spring forward" time change delayed us from getting on the road. Seemed to carryover to the fishing; was a slow start with a few light nibbles the first hour.
Finally, had a break when my fishing buddy Getx13 decided to pull the flyrod out. Caught two Trout using the Crappie Jig Variant in two casts. Things slowed down again, and then the bite was on with 8 Trout caught using Orange Powerbait in about 45"! Should have been quicker but had a number of missed hooksets!
Failed to measure the Trout but submitted pictures to the One Fishing Fly Challenge to show the fishing flies versatility - Bass, Sunfish, Bluegill, and now Trout taken with the fishing fly!

Lost One, Caught One At Stoney Hollow in Plano
Fished Stoney Hollow in Plano this evening. Slow action with no strikes for about an hour. Next hour managed to hook and lose a Bass. This was soon followed with another strike. Landed it and took a picture. Went about 11.5". Caught it on a Crappie Jig Variant; submitted it to the One Fishing Fly Challenge!

One Bass After Awhile At Stoney Hollow.
Planned to fish Waterloo in Denison for Trout this morning but the rain called the trip short. Decided to fish Stoney Hollow in Plano to see if the Bass were active.
Slow action with no strikes the first hour. Second hour had several strikes on the Crappie Jig Variant but kept losing them when the fishing fly pulled out while bring them in.
Switched to an Olive Wooley Bugger in size 8 and was finally able to bring one little Bass to shore. Does not make the One Fishing Fly Challenge but still a catch!

Slow Action,... Only One Sunfish
Hit Bethany Lakes again. Slow action with only one Sunfish caught. Had a few more strikes but failed to set the hook in time; one of which was a little Bass. Used the Crappie Jig Variant fishing fly, so submitting this one for the One Fishing Fly Challenge. Sunfish went just over 6.5".

One Bass and Three Sunfish On A Crappie Jig Variant
Fished Bethany Lakes this evening. Slow action with zero strikes the first hour, then as dusk settled, was able to catch one Bass that went 8" in size and three small Sunfish. Going to submit the little Bass to the One Fishing Fly Challenge. Small but it takes the lead for for now!

Three Sunfish For the One Fishing Fly Challenge!
Caught three Sunfish on a Crappie Jig Variant Fishing Fly. Submitted them for the One Fishing Fly Challenge. Largest went almost 5". Oh well, not the 7 pound Bass from the other day. Will keep on trying!

Personal Best LMB - 7 Pounder Caught At Bethany Lakes!
Decided to prepare for next month's One Fishing Fly Challenge by fishing a Crappie Jig Variant Fishing Fly. The Field Team decided on the Crappie Jig Variant Fishing Fly because the Crappie, White Bass (Sandies), and Bass action will be heating up in March!
Tied a pattern used by Texas Fishing Forum's Tarponfly for Crappie and White Bass on Rowlett Creek. Made a slight variation due to the lack of tying material.

Looks like the pattern worked this afternoon. Caught a 16" Bass, and soon followed with a personal best Bass that went ~23" and 7lbs (as weighed using a Zebco Deliar)!

Stopped By Towne Lake.
Stopped by Towne Lake in McKinney this morning. No one was fishing and observed little activity. Better bet for Trout would be Frisco Commons or tommorow at Denison's Waterloo Pond!

Denison Dam Tailrace Generating But...
Stopped by Denison Dam Tailrace this afternoon. A little misty and definitely cold. No one was fishing. Did see a few folks warming up by a bonfire on the Oklahoma side, else it looked like everyone was waiting for the action to start. Wanted to stay and hopefully see a few fish caught but work was calling and had to get back on the road.

Pan-Fried Trout!
Trout caught this past weekend have since gone away with breakfast! Going to have to hit another pond and maybe pull in another limit. Simple recipe calls for Salt, Pepper, and Season Salt, and then 10" per side. Makes for crispy rib bones that won't worry you!

Interesting... Bullhead on a Midge Fishing Fly!
Received another One Fishing Fly Challenge entry. Interesting catch; a Bullhead taken on a Midge fishing fly!
Looks like this one goes to the top of the list, measuring just over 7.5" in size. Great job NucLaroche! (see latest entries for Feb'10)

Slow Go At Bethany Ridge Park Pond
Zeke stopped by Bethany Ridge Park Pond this evening to post his entry into the One Fishing Fly Challenge. Result: One small Bluegill taken on a Zebra Midge in Size 22. Else, no other strikes; too cold for the fish in the pond.
Overall, snow and cold temperatures this month have made for tough fishing. Even tougher when fishing with Midge fishing flies. Small is the norm, at least for February.
PS: We debated about posting this one but given only two fish caught on Midges this round, we decided to post it! Be forewarned, it is a SMALL Bluegill (see entries as of 18 Feb'10)

Trout Limits Being Taken At Towne Lake This Valentine's Day
Fished Towne Lake in McKinney this afternoon. Was able to sieze an opportunity to fish between cold fronts which turned out to be good thing.
Action started slow with no hits on bait or lures but did observe Trout being taken using flyfishing gear and fishing flies and spinfishing gear with a bobber and bait set-up. Unable to determine lure or baits being used; regardless the action was steady with a number of limits taken. And, one fisherman confirmed limiting out using Roadrunners.
Tried Gold Superdupers, Silver Superdupers, and Mepps Spinners without success for about an hour. Switched to fishing Orange Powerbait using a splitshot rig and limited out in about 30".
PS: Cormorant have showed up, so Trout fishing may be tough having to compete with them. Also, Game Warden was checking licenses!

Record Snow In the Metroplex, Delay In Fishing Reports, Till Then....
Record snow in the DFW Metroplex has hindered the Field Team's fishing activities. We are unable to post fishing reports but expect to start up again once things thaw out.
Till then,.... The Field Team was "cornered" by our significant others to watch DVDs that hint (remind) us that Valentine's Day is this weekend.
We are "movied out" at this moment but decided to make the best of the situation by picking a song in one of the movies we watched, and then posting a playlist of YouTube videos about it.
The Field Team opted for Steve Earle's "Galway Girl" from the movie "PS I Love You" with Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank. Song is a great pick me up when you are having cabin fever and sounds even better when drinking an Irish Ale!
We all chose one, and then posted them in a playlist - "Galway Girl Playlist"! Here is one from the Team's playlist.

Towne Lake Trout Action Was Hot Again This AM!
Update: Stopped by Towne Lake this afternoon to see if the action this morning carried into the afternoon. It did with limits being taken by fishermen using bait and lures. Also, as things do change, gold colors seemed to be the key with Chartreuse and Firetail Rooster Tails (gold blade) in size 1/16 and Gold Superdupers being favored lures!
Fished Towne Lake in McKinney again this morning. More cold temperatures but were easily ignored as the Trout action was hot. Caught one using Corn and four using lures! Conducted an impromptu Field Test, switching lures frequently.
End result: Silver bladed spinners were getting more strikes than gold. However, we did not have a Chartreuse Rooster Tail which one fisherman was using to catch Trout on every cast!
For bait, noted others catching them on Bread, Corn, Salmon Eggs, and Powerbait. That said, things could quickly change, be ready to adjust and try different lures and baits!
