More Fun Catching Fish At Bethany With The Tenkara Rod!

More fun catching fish at Bethany Lakes with the Tenkara Rod.  Worked the weedline with an Olive Crawdad and the surface with a White Foam Spider.  Bass targeted the Olive Crawdad and the Bluegill were happy with the Foam Spider.  Largest fish was a Bass that went 13.5" in size!

7 Bass, 7 Bluegill, and 3 Sunfish At Bethany,...

Fished Bethany Lakes again this evening.  Staying with the Tenkara Rod because it works well fishing the weedline that parallels the bank!  Caught seven Bass, seven Bluegill, and three Sunfish.  Started out with the Olive Crawdad and did well catching Bass but lost it to a snag.  Switched to a Purple Damsel Fly and began hooking more Sunfish.  Later switched to a White Foam Spider and had fun with Bluegill on the surface!

Checked out the Lower Pond; Caught Little Bass mainly!

Went back out to Bethany Lakes with the Tenkara Rod.  Had a great time catching little Bass and a little Crappie from the Lower Pond.  Damsel Fly continued to produce.  Good to see that Pond is coming back from last year's cleanup work!  Here is a short video of the action.

9" Bluegill On a Damsel Fly This Morning!

Fished Bethany Lakes this morning.  Made it before the winds kicked up.  Had some fun Tenkara Fishing with the highlight being a Bruiser Bluegill that went 9" in size! Also, caught Sunfish and Bass - largest Bass went about 12" in size. Fun stuff, catching them on light tackle and a minimum of gear - "a fly, a line, and rod"!

4 Bass and 5 Sunfish On The Purple Damsel Fly!

Stopped by Auburn Springs (South) to test the waters using the Tenkara Rod.  Worked the bank and the feeder creek; caught and released 4 Bass and 5 Sunfish.  Largest Bass went 16" in size!  Fun stuff, even after losing a larger Bass than the 16 incher!  Still liking the Tenkara Rod and the ability to work the pond banks and small feeder creeks.

Late Start,... Gets Two Sunfish and Bass on the Purple Damsel Fly

Was a late start fishing this evening.  No worries, it's still fishing!  Took the fly rod to Bethany Lakes and worked the Main Pond with little success.

Bass were chasing the fishing fly but would not close the deal and strike allowing for a hookset!  Frustrating to see them chasing the fly without a strike.

Moved to the Canal and caught two Sunfish without delay.  Then, played around by the Waterfall and had a few light nibbles that finally resulted in a Bass hooked and landed!

Warmer Temps By This Afternoon, Decided to Fish Bethany This Evening

Cold front arrived yesterday. Temps were cold this morning but by afternoon warmer temps were had.  Decided to fish Bethany this evening after work and see what the action was like.

Took the Tenkara Rod to keep things simple,.... Had no problem catching two Bass and four Sunfish.  Did lose a couple of Bass that we estimated at two pounds!  Should have brought a net!

Only Two Bass This Round!

Cold front arrived last night along with a storm.  Bite slowed down compared to the last few days and the water was higher and murky.  Ended up catching two little Bass on a slowly retrieved Purple Damsel Fly!  Posted a short video of today's action below:

12 Bass and 2 Bluegill Taken On Damsel Flies and Tenkara Rod!

Could not let yesterday's Goldfish on a Tenkara Rod go unanswered.  Went to the local catch and release pond that we hit last week and braved the winds!  It was tough fishing but managed to work the fishing flies near the surface and maintain a steady retrieve with the Tenkara Rod.  Ended the outing with twelve Bass and two Bluegill caught and released. Short video clip posted below.

Harrington Park and then Haggard Park Today

While running errands stopped at the creek by Harrington Park and caught four fish.  Then, went on to Haggard Park to flex the Tenkara Rod; ended up catching a Goldfish.   Used Damsel Flies at both places. Made video clips as well!

Damsel Flies Continue to Produce!

Another Round Fishing a Local Pond, 5 Bluegill and 1 Little Bass

Went to a local fishing pond for another round of fishing.  Things started out okay with a decent Bass striking the Purple Damsel Fly.  However, a line break ends the fight and the Bass getting away.

Afterwards, caught mainly Bluegill and one little Bass.  Posted a short video of the outing below.  Check it out when you get chance!

6 Bluegill and 7 Bass On Damsel Flies!

New fishing spot turned out to be a good thing.  Passed this one by many times and have been meaning to fish it for a couple of years.  Finally checked it out yesterday evening. Noting the sign indicated catch and release only, pond looked promising!

Was going to fish topwater with the Deer Hair Bug.  But, since the cool front dropped temps into the 50's, tied on a Damsel Fly instead.  Soon after started catching fish; caught 6 Bluegill and 7 Bass by the end of the trip.

Largest Bluegill went about 8" in size; largest Bass went about 15" or 16" in size.  All were caught on Damsel Flies!  Had a great time catching (and releasing) them!

Deer Hair Bug Continues to Produce,...!

Was able to tie another Deer Hair Bug.  Fished it at Kroger Park and caught a little Bass and then lost two others.  Did observe catching Bass as well!  Good to know the Bass are actively taking lures.

Moved on to Bethany Lakes and caught three Bass but lost the Deer Hair Bug again.  Ended the trip soon after.

Going to tie another one tonight to replace today's loss!  Really like the Deer Hair Bug; need to keep this pattern in the fly box!

Kroger Park Again, Bass and Bluegill Were Liking Dry Flies!

Went back to Kroger Park today.  Caught one Bass on a Damsel Fly, then had a tough go until we tied a Dry Fly on.  Bass and Bluegill were taking them on the water's surface!

Bethany Quick Trip At Noon, Then Kroger Park in the Late Afternoon,...

Made a quick trip to Bethany Lakes at noon today.  Tied more Olive Damsel Flies to replace lost ones.  Good thing, was able to hook and land one that went about 15" in size.  Slow retrieve and subtle strikes were the norm today.

Then, fished Kroger Park in the late afternoon and caught more Bluegill!  Caught a few on a Dry Fly with a lot of misses.  Then, switched to a Grass Shrimp Pattern that we tied but have yet to catch anything on it until today!

Bluegill really liked the Pattern.  Bass checked it out and struck but missed setting the hook.  May need to adjust the size, these were tied on a Size 16 Hook.

Kroger Park Outing Gets More Bluegill and a Bruiser That Broke Off

Went back to Kroger Park.  This round brought Fly Fishing Gear instead of the Tenkara Rod.  Caught a Bluegill on the Olive Damsel Fly, then lost the fly to a Bruiser Bass.

Switched to an Oliver Wooley Bugger and caught more Bluegill.  Hated losing the Bass, easily would have took the lead in the One Fishing Fly Challenge!  Oh well, next time!

Tenkara Fishing at Kroger Park, Yields a Few Bass and Lots of Bluegill!

Took the Tenkara Rod out to Kroger Park yesterday.  Caught a few Bass (no Bruisers) and lots of Bluegill.  Quit counting after 25,... no worries, all were caught and released!  Was a tough go at first with a lot of missed hooksets but finally started hooking up a consistently using a Size 14 Wooley Bugger (Unweighted).
