Using the Simple Ghost Shrimp Bait Pump

Had a great time fishing the Texas Gulf Coast.  Really liked the ability to catch fresh bait from the surf - Ghost Shrimp.  The Bait Pump worked out well and allowed us to catch larger fish!  Below is a video clip of us using the Bait Pump; also posted it in our HubPages article - "Making a Simple Ghost Shrimp Bait Pump".  Check it out when you get a chance.

Island Tackle (Port Aransas)

While on the Texas Gulf Coast last year, stopped by the Island Tackle Store and bought circle hooks.  Really liked them but never wrote down the brand name.  Went back this year, bought more circle hooks, and this time took a picture of the brand name so as not to forget.  The brand name is Fishtamer Hooks.  Great value with the same quality as more expensive brands!

The 3/0 size works well for using Bread for bait when Catfish fishing but is a little on the small size for those Bruisers lurking in the community lakes and ponds.  This time went with the 6/0 size... It worked well for hooking up on the little Shark we caught from the surf earlier this week.  Suspect it will work well on a few Bruiser Catfish, too!

Mainly Whiting and Rays...

Set up on the beach for more surf fishing.  Mainly caught Whiting and Sting Rays.  No Sharks or other Bruisers this round.  Still a good day fishing rather than working!  Also, posted other pictures from the Jetty Boat Trip showing a mix bag of fish.

Sharks for Lunch!

Took a Jetty Boat today with other Field Team Members... caught mainly Shark.  On our return had them cleaned and filleted, and then a local eatery cooked them for a tasty lunch.  Even better; had enough fillets for Dinner, too!

More Fun On The Coast...

More fun on the Coast... today we setup on the Beach with Surfcasting Gear in hopes of a Bruiser or two!  It was a long day but did not have an issue as the bite was steady... mainly caught Whiting save for a little Blacktip Shark!

Change of Pace...

Change of pace.... Having fun catching a few Saltwater Fish.  No Bruisers, still fun,... more important, there is the uncertainty that something big may bite!

Also, getting a chance to test out the Ghost Shrimp Bait Pump we made from readily available parts at Home Depot!  Simple to make, easy to use, and makes for great live bait.  Too bad, only 20 per day per person is the regulation here for Ghost Shrimp.

For more on how we made one, check out our Hubpages Article - Making a Simple Ghost Shrimp Bait Pump!

Tenko Fishing At Bethany... Panfish and a Bass.

Went to Bethany Lakes for more Tenko Fishing.  Mini-Mum2 did well with a Bass and several Sunfish/Bluegill caught.  Most of the Sunfish were small and the Bass went about 12" in size, regardless... beats striking out!

Struck Out This Round....

Struck out this round at the Village.  Left the Senkos at home and went with Flyfishing Gear.  Fished a Clouser Minnow without a strike; switched to a Deer Hair Bug and got three strikes but was not able to set the hook fast enough.  Bass were there... just none were on my hook!

Senko Worked at the Village Again.

Fished the Village with Senko Worms this morning.  Caught three Bass and lost one.  Action was slow, then got slower as the sun came up.  Bass were tending deeper and away from the shoreline.  Slow but still a fun trip!

HubPages Article - "Tenko Fishing"

Been getting a few requests about Tenko Fishing and the hand poured plastic worms (Tenko Worms) we have been using.  To answer them, decided to post a new HubPages article - "Tenko Fishing"!  Check it out when you get a chance!

Lost a Bass, Caught a Bass, Caught Bluegill/Sunfish,... More Tenko Fishing!

Went back to Bethany for more Tenko Fishing.  Tied the Mini-Mum1 and soon hooked, fought, and lost a decent Bass.  Should bring a net when Tenko Fishing....  Switched to the Mini-Mum2 and caught a few Bluegill and Sunfish, then on the way out, fished the Mini-Mum1 again and hooked and landed a little Bass!

Tenko Fishing Again... Three Bass Tonight!

Tenko Fishing again tonight.  Caught three Bass, did lose a fourth Bass, but who is counting... also caught several Sunfish/Bluegill.  Water level continues to drop at Bethany.  Luckily, the fish are staying within casting distance of the Tenkara Rod.  Used the Mini-Mum1 to catch the first Bass; all others were caught with the Mini-Mum2.

Caught Three Sunfish/Bluegill and Finally a Bass While Tenko Fishing!

Caught three Sunfish/Bluegill and finally a Bass while Tenko Fishing.  Caught them on the "Mini-Mum2", the smaller of the two Tenko Worms we hand poured.  Did get a decent Bass to strike the "Mini-Mum1" but it came off the hook while trying to land it.  Still a good trip!

Tenko Fishing Gets a Sunfish and Two Shellcrackers!

Did another field test of the hand poured Tenko Worms at Bethany this evening.  Caught a little Sunfish on the Mini-Mum2 and two decent size Shellcrackers.  One took the Mini-Mum2; the other went for the Mini-Mum1.

Had several Bass take the lures but they quickly threw the hook.  Still working on a better hook to use for this type of fishing.  Till then,... will keep woking on it!

Tenkara and Senko Worms - Tenko Fishing Anyone?

Been itching too flex the Tenkara Rod but have been side-tracked by Bass and hand pouring  our version of a Senko Worm - the "Half-Quatro".  So, to enjoy the two, why not combine them and call it Tenko Fishing - small plastic worms fished on a Tenkara Rod!

Since Tenkara Fishing uses small fishing flies, opted to  modify the "Half-Quatro" to a smaller version.  Made two variants of the "Half-Quatro".  Going to call them the "Mini-Mum1" and "Mini-Mum2" for ease of reference.

Tested them out this morning at Bethany Lakes.... water levels are low but the fish remain near the banks and well within casting range of the Tenkara Rod (at least in the morning).  Had several Bass strike the Worms but lost them while bringing them in.  Used small Jig Hooks in lieu of a Bass Worm Hook; will need to come up with a better hook to use else risk more lost Bass.

Made a change after a break off of a decent Bass.... Go figure, only poured two Worms, so was down to one Worm.  Opted to fish the remaining Worm wacky rigged; had more strikes and misses.  This kept up until the Worm split in two.

Not to be left without a lure in the Field, made do and tied on a smaller jig hook and fished using halves!  Good thing.... Bluegill, Sunfish really liked it!

Had a fun time Tenko Fishing this morning.  Will need to come up with a better hook to use, else am happy with the Worms - "Mini-Mum1" and "Mini-Mum2"!  Will need to pour more for the next round.

A Little Bluegill At Bethany... Four Bass On the Half-Quatro At the Village!

Went to Bethany the other night and struck out except for a foul hooked baby Bluegill.  Stopped by the Village for a quick trip before (yes, gotta keep our day jobs) work this morning!  Glad to see the Half-Quatro is still getting strikes.  Caught and released four Bass; no Bruisers but still a good trip... sure beats work!

More Bass at the Village Using the Half-Quatro!

Finally able to break away from the day job and wet a line.  Opted to fish the Village to test out the hand poured Half-Quatro.  Made three; lost two.  Now left with only one.  No worries, will make more later.  Moreover, the Half-Quatro worked fine on a Carolina-Rig... caught nine Bass this round!

Half-Quatro Worked... Caught Three Bass At The Village!

Poured a couple more "Half-Quatro" Worms... looks like they work.  Went to the Village and caught three Bass using them.. Fun stuff... even better when you catch them on a soft plastic you poured not 30" before fishing it.

Other Commitments, but...!

Have other commitments that are keeping us from fishing but it still does not keep us away from the fishing mindset.  Was out and about down South, stopped by an antique store in Gruene and picked up a couple of lures - a Hollow-Frog and a Tiny Torpedo!

Then, decided to pour a prototype plastic "Senko" worm.  Calling it the "Half-Quatro" because it is a hand poured worm based on the 4" Senko.  The difference is it floats and the bottom is flat - almost like the 4" Senko was cut in half!

Going to play around with this one a little, maybe make another version of it.  That is, if we can keep from burning the plastisol!
