Testing the New Camera Underwater....

Bought a GoPro Hero HD that can be used underwater.  Posted a test clip on our YouTube Channel; really liking it.  Hope to try it out while fishing and get some action shots!

Too Nice a Day....

Went to Cabelas and picked up a couple of crankbaits.  Went with a Bass colored Cabelas Brand Square-Billed Crankbait and then a Rapala Brand one.  Being it was too nice a day, decided to test the Crankbaits out at Bethany.

Caught three Bass using the Square-Billed Crankbait; no strikes on the Rapala Brand.  Took a picture of two of the Bass; the third one was landed but slipped back into the water while trying to get the camera out.

Later, noticed the Catfish were feeding on Bread where people fed the ducks.  Caught three Catfish, largest went about 24" in size!  Fun stuff!

Slow Round This Morning

Thunderstorms last night,.... water is up slightly at Bethany.  Enough rain fell to start the Canal and the Waterfall running.  Fished with Fly Fishing Gear and a Damsel Fly this morning.  Had a few strikes but missed them.  Also, saw Bass working the shallow near the cypress knees.  But, action was slow.  Only managed to hookup with two "fingerling" Bluegill.  Oh well, till the next round!

Only One This Time

Returned this morning to Bethany for another try at the Catfish.  Used Baitcasting Gear and a Bubble Float Rig with Bread for bait.  Had several take the bait but missed them.  Did manage one that we estimate about 18" in size!

Thirteen Bass and Two Bluegill on Rooster Tails, then Three Catfish on Cheerios!

Fished Bethany this evening.  Caught thirteen Bass (no Bruisers) and two Bluegill using Rooster Tails and Ultralight Gear.  Then, as it got dark, noticed activity in the shallows while walking back to the car.  Switched to bait and freelined Cheerios;  ended up catching three decent Catfish.  Had to call it quits but left them biting.  Catfish ranged from 18" to 20"+!  Fun stuff!

Three Bass This Trip

Broke away from the "salt mines" and fished Bethany.  Went with Senkos and caught three Scrappy Bass, then switched to a Spinnerbait without success.  After dark, tried a Hula Popper and had a couple of strikes but no hookups.  Did see another fisherman catch three Bass... looked like a Spinnerbait.  Need to play it by ear next round and switch lures sooner than later!

Cold Front Slows Things Down

Fished the pond behind In-N-Out Burger; caught two Bass and missed two Bass.  All on Senkos.  Only fished for 30".... did not dress for the 48 degree temps.  Still glad to wet a line and catch fish!

Waiting for the Regular Season....

Now that Early Teal Season has passed, it's time to wait for the Regular Season to arrive.  Till then, opted to read up on duck calling and decoying.  Picked up a book from the local bookstore... "The Ultimate Guide to Calling and Decoying Waterfowl" by Monte Burch!

Sunfish and Bass on the Fly....

Fished Bethany... this time went with the fly rod and an Olive Crawdad.  Caught four Sunfish, and then two Bass.  Slower action but fish were still biting.  Fun stuff!

Late start this evening but did make it to Bethany for a quick trip.  Fished a Senko and caught a Bass, fished a Spinnerbait and caught a Catfish!  Then, had to call it quits to get other things done....

Two Catfish on Spinnerbaits

Decided to fish Bethany after replacing the Spinnerbaits that we lost to Tree Fish the last couple of trips.  Slower bite as a cool front arrived but did manage two Catfish... on Spinnerbaits!  One was a "skinny" Bruiser that we guess went 22" in size!

Last Day Early Season 2012-2013....

Made a hunt to the lake this morning.  Light rain when we arrived at the boat ramp.  By 8AM a steady rain had arrived.  Regardless, Teal were active this morning.  Had a hard time getting where we wanted to setup, ended up setting up in the trees, and had a few fly by but not within range.  Group to our left did well with some Teal taken... Good to see others connecting!  Will post a video of this morning's hunt on our Duck Hunting Field Notes shortly; check it out when you get a chance.

Two Bass, Two Catfish, and a Tree Fish....

Rain this morning, went fishing caught two Bass, two Catfish - one of which was a decent sized one, and then lost our Spinnerbait to a Tree Fish.  Had fun catching them!  Guessing the Catfish went about 18"+ in size.

Two Bass and a Tree Fish on Spinnerbaits!

Late start this evening; made it to Bethany.  Brought bait casting gear and one lure - a Spinnerbait.  One change though... added a stinger hook!  It did make a difference.  Caught two Bass, missed several others, and then lost the lure to a Tree Fish.  Oh well, fun stuff still!

Nine Fish On Inline Spinners This Round

Fished Bethany this evening.  Went with inline spinners starting out with a Rooster Tail.  Caught one Bluegill and missed several Bass.  Switched to the Wooley Rooster Martin and caught more Bass and two Catfish.  Fish count this round:  One Bluegill, six Bass, and two Catfish. Used Ultralight Gear and four pound test, making the fish feel like Bruisers... fun stuff!

Quick Trip at Lunch

Had some time today to break away and go for a quick trip at Lunch.  Brought the fly rod and a Damsel Fly.  Ended up catching three little fish - a Bass and two Sunfish.  Scrappy fighters and still fun to catch!

Fished This Morning, But...

Fished this morning at Bethany.  Caught seven Bass on a Rooster Tail but had to call the trip short as we had some car issues.... ended up needing to get it towed to a local garage.  No worries... still fun fishing while waiting for the tow truck to arrive!

Lake Level Was Low... Went with a Guided Hunt.

Checked out Lake Lavon and noted the water level was low... too low for the Jon Boat.  May try later with a Kayak or possibly try a walk-in hunt.  Still itching to get the Season started and having missed opening weekend, decided on a guided hunt on private land.  Good thing... ended up with a limit of Blue Winged Teal!

Missed Opening Weekend But....

Missed Opening Weekend for Early Teal Season.  But, back in the swing and hope to make it out this weekend.  Going light since the old Jon Boat still needs painting.  Regardless, cool temps should make the morning hunts interesting!

Hula Popper Gets a Bite Or Two This Evening!

After a late start, made it out to Bethany this evening.  Went with Baitcasting Gear and a Hula Popper.  Fished it fast with no strikes.  Fished it slow and started getting strikes.  After about 30" finally hooked a Bass, then caught a decent Catfish that easily makes the COAF Leader Board.  Estimating the Catfish went about 20" plus; not a bad outing!
