Steady Bite at Bethany

A little windy this evening but made a go for Bethany.  Was a steady bite of Bluegill using the Green Grasshopper Variant and the Guadalupana!  Fun stuff on the Four Weight Fly Rod!

Pattern Changed....

Tied a White Damsel Fly Variant and tested it out a Bethany.  Had one Bluegill take it solid, and then had others strike but no hookups.  Switched to a White Grasshopper Variant and had a few more strikes, then called it quits at Bethany.  Went across the street to Bethany Ridge and hooked a few Bluegill and Shellcracker.  Pattern changed; suspect the cool front had something to do with it.  Still had a fun time!

Bethany This Evening; Went with the Grasshopper.

Tied a White Caddis Dry Fly and fished Bethany this evening in hopes of another go at the Bluegill.  Turned out they did not want it; however, two Bass and two Bluegill went for the Foam Rubber Spider Variant (or Grasshopper) that worked yesterday.  Also missed two Bass as we closed out this round.  Fun stuff!

Bluegill and Bass at Bethany This Evening

Tied a Caddis Antron Nymph and headed to Bethany Lakes for a go at the Bluegill.  As it turned out, the Bass preferred a White Guadalupana instead.  Missed one Bass, and then caught three Bass from the Main Pond.  Then, switched to a White Foam Rubber Spider Variant and started catching Bluegill and one more Bass on the surface!  Great top water action!

Bluegills and Shellcrackers This Round!

Was able to sneak away and fish again this afternoon.  Decided to fish Bethany Ridge (Kroger Park) this round.  Used the 4-WT Flyrod and the Guadalupana and caught Bluegills and Shellcrackers!  Fish were lurking about 30'-40' from shore and were taking the fishing fly lightly. Guessing about 15+ fish caught and released!  Fun stuff!

Cold Morning; One Sunfish This Round

Fished Bethany this morning.  Cold morning with temps in the mid-30's.  Caught one Sunfish on a White Guadalupana; missed several others.  Really light strikes made it tough to set the hook despite using a 4-Weight Flyrod.  Things started to pick up by the time we left; Bass were beginning to chase baitfish in the shallows.  Had several missed strikes using an Olive Wooley Bugger.  May have to sneak away later and try for the Bass again!

Kroger Park Then Bethany Lakes Today!

Checked out White Rock Creek this morning.  Did a little scouting along one of the feeder creeks with no success.

Decided to head back to Allen, then fished Kroger Park.  Caught Bluegill and saw a Bruiser Bass looking like it was getting a spawning bed ready.

After catching a few Bluegill, went across the street to Bethany Lakes and managed one Bass and a Sunfish!

Used the Guadalupana, Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph, and a Red Midge to catch the Bluegill.  Used an Olive Wooley Bugger to get the Bass and the Sunfish.

Great day today; fun stuff!

Duck Dynasty

At Choctaw... Hoping to meet up with Willie, Jase, and Si.  Season was a bust for us with the lake level so low.  But, meeting up with the Duck Dynasty guys sure helps to keep us motivated for next Season!

Something Is Still There....

Went back to Kroger Park for another go at the Bruisers that were feeding on bread the other day.  Brought more bread and a Bread Fly that we made using poly fibers from a pillow.

After chumming the area, cast the Bread Fly and a trailer hook baited with bread.  A Bruiser stole the bread, then hit the Bread Fly hard.  Fight lasted only seconds as the line broke soon after. Need to go with a stronger test line next time.

Having lost the Bread Fly, baited a hook with bread and managed a Bullhead and Bluegill just like the other day.  Frustrating to have had one break off; still had a great time though!

Something is There.

Went to Bethany Ridge this evening.  Was testing out a Senko Fly but soon switched to Bread for bait when we noticed something large feeding on Bread that someone had left for the ducks.

After chumming an area, started seeing some large Catfish splashing the water as they fed on the floating pieces of bread.

Only managed a Bluegill and a Bullhead but was good to know there are some Bruisers lurking in the pond!

Out and About Today

Nice day today. Decided to fish Bethany Ridge Park (also called Kroger Park).  Caught little Bluegill using a Guadalupana and then a Zebra Midge.

Then, went across the street to Bethany Lakes.  Caught one Sunfish in the canal; tried the Lower Pond, Main Pond, and Back Pond without a strike.

Finally, went to Davis Library in Plano and caught more Bluegill.  Did see some Bass lurking but were unwilling to strike our fishing fly.  However, one young fisherman caught a Bass using a Wacky-Rigged Plastic Worm!

Fun stuff!

More Fun at Waterloo!

Fished Waterloo this morning.  Trout were active.  Caught four Trout, fell in the water, then caught one more to make a limit.  Caught and released more;  all went for a fishing fly - Guadalupana!

Did get a few underwater camera shots; even got some action shots of the fall! Glad the camera is waterproof; had lost it in the pond for about 10" before recovering it while it was still filming.

Sunfish at Davis Library Pond

Stopped by the pond by Davis Library to see if fish were biting despite the cold temps.  They were... Sunfish were taking a Olive Wooley Bugger drifted slowly! Was not able to fish for long but did manage five with one that went about 7"-8" in size!  Fun stuff!

More Fun at Waterloo

Too nice a day... went back to Waterloo for more fun catching Trout.  Limited out with five Trout.  Also, caught and released a good number as well.  Trout were actively feeding; action was fast and steady.  Saw a number of limits taken on Corn, Powerbait, Powerbait Worms, and Super Dupers!

In our case, used the Four Weight Fly Rod/Reel and caught them on the Guadalupana and a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph.  Did get strikes with an Olive Wooley Bugger is size 10 but tended to miss the hookset.  Had more success using the size 12 - 2X Streamer Hook that we use to tie the Guadalupana and the size 14 Scud Hook that we use for the GRHEN.

Still editing the video; will plan to post as soon as possible.

Update:  Video of the action:

Long Day....

Fished River Park earlier today.  Caught one Trout using Powerbait; others were doing well using Power Worms.  Saw a number of Bruisers caught; really like the size Trout the Water District stocks in the river!

Later in the day, went to Denison and caught four more Trout to make a limit.  Trout stocked this  round were larger than earlier stocking in the pond.  Then, did some catch and release fishing; lost count but caught and released a Trout on every other cast for an hour.  Even left them biting.

Took some video, will post later... was a long day, too tired to edit the video.  Still had a great time on a nice day to be outside!

Update:  Here is the Video.

Quick Trip to Bethany... 2013

Made it to Bethany Lakes for a quick trip this morning.  Gotta chance to try the new Four Weight Flyrod/Reel we picked up from Cabelas.  Bite was slow but steady with a little Bass and several Sunfish caught before a cold front arrived!  Used the Guadalupana to catch them this round; same fishing fly that worked on the Trout at Waterloo last weekend.

Tough Go Trying To Fish....

Been a tough go trying to fish lately. Bad weather, the day job, and yes... pneumonia has slowed things down.  Worse yet, have not been able to try out a new Four Weight Fly Rod that we picked up from Cabelas.  Looks really good with the Ross Fly Reel!  Now just gotta go fishing with it.

Two Limits at Waterloo to Start 2013!

Made it to Waterloo in Denison today for some trout fishing.  Pond was stocked recently with more Rainbow Trout!

Fshng84 used the Ross Fly Reel we picked up from Cabelas the other day and mounted it on a Three Weight Rod. NucLaroche opted for an Ultralight Spinning Rod/Reel.

Two of us fished, and two of us limited out. One limit was caught using a Guadalupana; other one was caught using Rainbow Powerbait.  Fun stuff... great way to start the new year!

Ross Fly Reel

Been having a hard time getting out to go fishing.  Weather has been the main contributor as well as a personal commitments that require attention.  Did sneak out to Cabelas and looked for a few clearance deals.  Managed to pick up a 3/4 Weight Ross Fly Reel for $56 much better than the listed $80 price!
