Jug Line Fishing Lake Lavon #ifishnews #coaffieldteam

Able to get the jon boat prepared for a round of jug line fishing at the local lake – Lake Lavon. Put in at Highland Park, and had a fun time catching catfish for the beer batter fish fry recipe we like.

Caught seven catfish – one Channel Catfish and six Blue Catfish. All went for fresh caught shad that we caught with the cast net at the boat ramp. It was windy but luckily able to fish the leeward side of the point to minimize time in the windy areas.

Catfish were taken in shallow water – 4-6 feet, as well as further out in about 6-10 feet of water. Did catch and release a Crappie and a White Bass.

No worries had more than enough for dinner that evening… beer batter fish fry recipe and the homemade tartar sauce still makes a tasty dinner! Hope to be back out again, especially with the new “fish finder” – Charlie the Maltese Doggie!

First Kayak Fishing Trip to Lavon for 2020 #kayakfishing

Finally able to make it out in the kayak to our local lake – Lake Lavon. Went light with one rod and the small tackle box with slabs and crappie jigs. Planned to try for crappie in the trees but no luck.

Did manage one Yellow Bass on a Slab and Jig Rig and bottom bouncing it across a point. Too nice a day to be indoors, glad to get out and stretch the paddling muscles.

Do plan to be back sooner than later as the temps warm!

Kickoff 2015 with Two Limits at Waterloo

Made it to Waterloo this afternoon. After making adjustments,  Nuclaroche finds the pattern... two limited out this round!  Fun stuff!

What to do, What to do?

Team is debating on where to fish this morning. Still have a "honey do" list that includes Christmas lights to be taken down. Luckily, need to let them dry before putting them up. Sounds like a "tomorrow thing"!

Better yet, why not leave them up all year... Christmas is year round, maybe? HOA may not agree with it as well as the significant other.

So, heard Denison is hosting a Trout Derby today for adults; plus they stocked it again. Sounds like a possibility later today.

Will play it by ear and send an update to the Web Admin at StockerTroutFishing.com; go figure. He is pushing us to go fishing so he can post which may be a good (or bad) thing.

For now, let's say it is a good thing!

Quick Trip to Bethany for More Trout

Fished Bethany this evening; first cast got a Rainbow Trout on a Silver Super Duper, and then no more strikes afterwards.

Shifted to a COAF Griffith's Gnat and used the 5WT Fly Rod to work some of the Risers. Managed to hook and land one; else, had more missed strikes. Was not paying close attention... oh well, till next time.

Video/report sent to StockerTroutFishing.com... Also, tied some COAF Griffith's Gnat and BH GRHEN since we were running low.

COAF Griffith's Gnat Gets One....

After fishing Waterloo this morning; decided to check the action at Bethany this evening as well as test out a fly fishing leader I made from monofilament fishing line.

Saw others posting on the Texas Fishing Forum about making their own fly fishing leaders. Decided to use a "recipe" from way back when I first started fly fishing and was always seemed low in funds.

Leader worked well, turning over the COAF Griffith's Gnat with ease. Even hooked and landed one Trout. No pics... slipped and fell while preparing to take a picture of it.  Ended up flopping back in to the water.

No worries... had fun as well as good to see the "recipe" still works!

Tough Go This Round at Waterloo

Headed up to Denison this morning. Tough go this round at Waterloo Park Pond. Two of us fished, but only one of us limited out.

Took a while to figure out the pattern; turned out a BH GRHEN under a strike indicator did the trick at least for Fshng84. NucLaroche had a couple of missed hook sets, else he struck out.

Still a fun time despite the cold temps. Video/report posted at StockerTroutFishing.com!

Two This Round

Could not stay away. Fished Bethany this evening and hooked up with two trout using Super Dupers.

Did get to try the new Fly Rod out; worked out well even with the wind. Going to have to catch something with it now.

Fun stuff... report/video sent to StockerTroutFishing.com.

PS: Stopped at Cabelas and stocked up on Trilene; works well for making fly fishing leaders.

Limited Out This Morning; New 4wt the Afternoon

Went fishing at Bethany Lakes this morning before it started to rain. Zeke brought his dog and no fishing pole. Also, gave a running commentary on how to fish like he normally does... LOL.

Limited out... sent report - video and onsite podcast, to the Web Admin at StockerTroutFishing.com. Let's see how soon it gets posted.

Later, went to Cabelas to check out the deals with Zeke. Zeke bought licorice; Fshng84 bought another fly rod (4wt, 5'6" Cabelas TQR) like he normally does... LOL.

PS: Report and Podcast posted at Report/Video. Only took 30"... Wow!

COAF Griffith's Gnat Took Three Trout This Round

Quick trip to Bethany this evening. Took three on a COAF Griffith's Gnat in about 20", and then missed several others.

Ended the day with three Trout plus one from another fisherman who caught it on a PowerWorm.

Wind was tough but luckily Trout were still taking dry flies! Sent report/video to StockerTroutFishing.com; they posted it as well.

Do check it out!

Got Two This Round

Stopped by earlier in the day and struck out. Was a tough time with the cold and wind. Hoped for rising trout that would go for the COAF Griffith's Gnat. No luck... called it quits and headed to the casa to warm up. Planned to go later when the trout would be rising (hopefully)!

Made it back around 3PM and tried the Griffith's Gnat without success, switched to other fishing flies, and then switched to a Spinning Rod/Reel and a Super Duper. Had one strike but no hook ups.

Finally, trout started rising around 5PM.  Hooked three, landed two, and lost one in 20". Had to leave them biting though... till next time!

Sent report to our Partners at StockerTroutFishing.com; do check it out - Today's Post.!

Windy and Cold at Bethany... Merry Christmas!

Windy and cold at Bethany; was hoping to get a few hits from risers on the Griffith's Gnat.

Saw a few but none in range to cast. Will have to wait till they start rising consistently again to try on a dry fly again.

Time to get inside and get warm again!

For now, the Team would like to say, "Merry Christmas to our Readers!"

Fishing Not Catching!

Frustrating day but still had fun fishing instead of working. Fished Bethany Lakes and tried various fishing flies until a pattern was found.

Been having trouble figuring out what fishing dry fly to use for the rising trout. After several rounds, settled on the COAF Griffith's Gnat. Had tried a Black Midge Dry Fly and had "nudges" but no hook ups yesterday and today.

After changing fishing flies several times, tied on the COAF Griffith's Gnat and started getting strikes. Ended up only catching one but did hook five others that came off when trying to lift the Trout out of the water.

May need to tie a few more and try fishing it again to confirm it's no fluke!

For more about today's action, check out the latest post at StockTroutFishing.com - "Took A While But Found a Pattern".
