Another Front On the Way [1-06-2015]

Originally published January 6, 2015

Noticed the weather forecast is warning of another cold front arriving this week. Looks like cold temps and wintry precipitation is likely. Moreover, no reports from the Field Team. Suspect they are hot and heavy working their day jobs to "mess" with fishing.

No worries for this Blogger... or as Glenn  calls me, "The Weblog Admin". That said, since I am a volunteer and don't get paid, I do like being referenced as "The Weblog Admin"!

So until the next report, here is picture that the Team sent. From his notes, it sounded like the birds return each year to Waterloo in Denison!

Trout Fishing Murphy City Complex Pond

We are migrating to a new format that will improve the site navigation experience. See the new format at Stocker Trout Fishing!

Trout Fishing Murphy City Complex Pond | Livestream in Murphy, Texas

After only a strike and a miss, decided to post a livestream while trout fishing at Murphy City Complex Pond. Saw lots of folks, with limits being taken on PowerBait and PowerWorms as well as lures. Gold Super Duper worked for some in the morning. Later, Silver Super Dupers were getting bit. Key was to cast mid-pond , let the lure sink, and retrieve slow... much slower than the retrieve that worked last weekend in McKinney's Towne Lake.

Fished a Feeder Creek This Round [1-04-2015]

Originally published January 4, 2015

Cold temps and short on time; no Trout Reports today. Did get a snippet from Fshng84 who went fishing at the Feeder Creek to Bethany. He reported little Bluegill/Sunfish on Soft Hackle and Tiny Midges.

Looked like fun especially on a 3 Weight Fly Rod. Did note that the Tiny Midge used was the same one used on the Blue River when a midge hatch starts up and the Trout start slurping them up just before they break the surface.

Beware Bigger Fish Below... #shorts #pondfishing

Local trout derby scheduled today; rain and snow in the forecast. May need to stop by tomorrow instead of today. That said, there are bigger fish lurking in the pond. Be prepared to haggle with them over a fish or two!

Team Limited Out at Waterloo [1-03-2015]

Originally published January 3, 2015

Received an update from the Team... limited out at Waterloo!

  • Two went for the GRHEN on a Tandem Rig Near Deere and GRHEN.
  • Remainder went for PowerBait.

Overall, it looked like a number of fishermen limited out. Bait seemed to outdo lures. No worries, Good thing our fishing buddy figured out the pattern this round and had PowerBait ready to go!

Fixing a Cast Net, Braille Line Repair #diy #fishing #repair

After several temp fixes to broken braille lines to the cast net, finally took the time to replace them all. Hot day but got it done! Took slightly longer… added an extra braille line on the fly when I noticed a portion of the net was drooping lower than the others!

PS: One change to the fix for the next net. I would attach the new braille lines next to the old ones, and then cut the old braille lines. No measuring needed!

Saturday Morning…? [1-03-2015]

Saturday morning... Looks like the rain is letting up. Checked the local ponds and noted water levels are up.

Have not heard from the Team about the action at Bethany Lakes but will post an update as soon as they report in.

That said, here is a picture showing the water is flowing at Bethany Creek Pond (just up the road from Bethany Lakes)!

Water is flowing!

What I Did To Limit Out on Trout... Five Steps! [2-23-2022]

Originally published February 23, 2022

This round I demonstrate the five steps I follow that helped me limit out on Trout. Do give it a try, and let us know how it worked for you!

Step 1 - Observe

  • Where are the trout lurking?
  • What are others doing that is/isn't working?

Step 2 - What worked before?

  • Try lures and retrieves that worked from past trips
  • Do the same, else try varying the presentation

Step 3 - What is Different?

  • Did something change - warmer, colder?
  • Has the wind changed?

Step 4 - Give them what they want!

  • Try different lures
  • Change the retrieve
  • Note any indication of a strike

Step 5 - Catch a limit!

  • Once you catch one, repeat
  • If the bite stops, adjust by changing lures again

Super Dupers!

Towne Lake - 2022 Trout Derby | Fishing Trip Report | 2-19-2022

Trout were liking inline spinners - specifically, Rooster Tails. Local Trout Derby was winding down but the trout were getting active. Rooster Tails as well as Power Worms were favored lures and baits.

Yours truly opted for Bait Finesse Systems style fishing casting a 1/16oz Rooster Tail to trout lurking mid-pond.

Fun times!

Trip Information

  • Date: 2-19-2022
  • Time: 1030-1230
  • Location: Towne Lake, McKinney, TX

Key Take Aways:

  • Trout Derby was in progress; noted some were catching trout. Slow compared to past years.
  • PowerWorms, PowerBait, Corn, and some action on lures. Not able to see specific lures.
  • Calm, with Temps in the 30s in the AM but warmed to 50's by Noon.
  • Slow action in the small pond; looks shallower with more silt
  • Larger pond had some action that later picked up in the day.
  • Murky water, visibility less than a foot.
  • Fire Tail Rooster Tail fished on a steady but slow retrieve worked!

Gear Used:

BFS Lure Data

Fish Data

  • Rainbow Trout – 9″ to 12" – Roster Tail (Fire Tail) – Steady but Slow Retrieve
  • Estimated 25+ total count - caught, released, or missed strikes

Lessons Learned

  • Similar to past years, Rooster Tails with Gold Blade and chartreuse were best.
  • Also, PowerWorms fished on bottom with split shot were best.
  • Fishing under floats worked but slower bite.

  • As the sun came out, bite turned off for the BH GRHEN
  • Heard from others that Near Deere were getting bit later in the day

Warren Sports Complex | Fishing Trip Report | 2-13-2022

In keeping with the rollout of our Bait Finesse Systems Fishing Journal, the following is the Fishing Trip Report for last Sunday – Super Bowl Sunday, to the Warren Sports Complex. Plan was to catch a trout or two, but as it turned out only one for trip. At least, it was not a strikeout!

PS: Added footage to the video on a follow-up trip on Valentine’s Day to catch Bass on Senkos BFS Style!

Trip Information

  • Date: 2-13-2022
  • Time: 0930-1230
  • Location: Warren Sports Complex, Frisco, TX

Key Take Aways:

  • Trout were stocked Thursday, and then the Annual Trick A Trout Derby was held Saturday.
  • Temps dropped 30 degrees on Sunday compared to Sunday.
  • Trout action was mainly on the Northeast end and the West side. Action seemed best near “waterflow” areas.
  • Windy, NW at 10+ mph
  • Gold Super Duper worked for one individual; long casts and steady retrieve.
  • Fire Tail Rooster Tail worked for one trout; slow retrieve.

Gear Used:

BFS Lure Data

Fish Data

  • Rainbow Trout – 9″ – Roster Tail (Fire Tail) – Slow Retrieve

Lessons Learned

  • Fish are tending to Northeast end and/or West side where water is deeper.
  • Waterflow areas were key.
  • Fish deep when using Power Bait
  • South end is shallow, looks promising for later in the year when temps warm.
  • Pond is large with the typical “stock tank” slope. Plan to fish parallel or at acute angles when warm water bite starts.
