Fished the local pond the other day using the little 2wt Cabelas Fiberglass CGR Fly Rod. Paired well with the 2/3 Wt Echo Ion Fly Reel. I am fishing a Caddis Foam Grasshopper and working the pond by casting to spawning Bluegill on their nests. Polarized glasses make a difference in finding them.
Follow up video of an earlier post about fish caught at Lake Glenn. Previously, showed one Bass caught that round. This video shows the fish caught that day!
Bait Finesse System fishing with a KastKing Zephyr without the reel clicker. I am casting a Teeny Crankbait from the Mystery Tackle Box! Caught several but this was the largest caught that round - estimating 16-17 inches.
Foam Grasshopper Variant that uses 2mm closed cell foam cut with a foam cutter to make a caddis body. Calling it the Caddis Foam Grasshopper. Worked well on Bluegill and Bass!
Plan was to fish the local pond using Bait Finesse Gear and ultralight lures. Switched to a Fly Fishing when my inline spinner kept fouling on the algae.
Started out with a Damsel Fly and had several strikes but no hook ups. Went to a Guadalupana in a smaller size hook compared to the Damsel Fly. Did better!
Worked mainly the areas near the bank as the water level in the pond was high from recent rains. Did work a more open area in the back pond to see what was cruising the area.
Caught most of the fish on a fast, short pull retrieve. Did get one Bass to take the Damsel Fly worked in its bed but as luck would have it, camera battery ran out.
Fun times fly fishing with nine Bluegill and four Bass caught and released!
Now if only the wind would calm down and we could get back to kayak fishing!
Yesterday, we struck out at Denison Dam but mentioned kayak fishing and juglining as a backup plan. Did well… with Catfish caught. Dinner Shrimp Etouffee over rice and Blackened Catfish!
Tasty! Will get a trip video out later this week; do check back!
Making preparations for kayak fishing and juglining. Had to fix my juglines to make them legal in Texas. Rules require juglines to be at least 3″ wide and 6″ long. Good to go now!
While at it, replaced the Name and Address Label with a Customer ID Label. Liking it much better than the old rules!
Sunday morning decided on Tenkara Fishing a local pond. Bass were spawning but none of the Bruisers wanted to play. Caught Bluegill and little Bass for a fun round fishing!
Getting ready for the warm weather fishing season. Time to start the Suzuki 2.5hp Outboard motor. After several pulls and a warm up period, starts with one pull! Just need to clean up the jon boat and rig jug lines, should be ready for the season!
Here is a video short of yours truly trying to catch a trout or two after figuring out the pattern. Trout were wanting no retrieve, minimal movement... or a long pull and then hold while the fly sank. Used a Pat's Near Deere, and then a Pat's Rubber Legs.
Here is a simple but effective pattern to try... possibly for the first time fly tyer! Uses bead chain eyes and two plumes of marabou. Worked for Bass and Bluegill at the local pond!
Left the Senkos at home while out and about. Fishing with BFS Gear - Shimano Scorpion 17, Bass Pro Shops Micro Lite Rod, and Rooster Tails.
Saw bass cruising the shallows, had several strikes and lots of misses. Did run into a school of little Bass that just did not want to commit to striking the Rooster Tail.
Luckily, water was clear and I could see them react to my lure... so, tried this to get them to strike. It worked, except I still need to work on my landing technique!
It was a fun time last Saturday at the 7th Annual TRWD Flyfest. We have not missed one since the first TRWD Flyfest in 2016!
A fly fishing event that offers fly fishing demos, fly tying classes, fly fishing seminars, and fly casting lessons. It also hosts a Big Trout Contest which is a Team favorite.
This year we were able post a livestream while we watched contestants compete. Although we missued Heat 4 and the final Fish Off to decided the contest winner, we did enjoy the fast paced action that Heats 1 – 3 provided.
We have posted unedited Livestreams on our Channel for reference. For those that would like a highlights version of the contest, do check out the video!
Key items to note this round… fly fishing presentation and technique coupled with positioning where the fish are lurking made a difference in numbers of trout caught!
