First time fishing with a Center Pin Reel. Had to practice and get my timing and release down. Managed to catch two Trout, improve my casting, and then closed out with ultralight baitcasting to get three more trout to make a limit.
Do check back for more Center Pin Fishing. New way to fish for yours truly. Would be a great way to fish the tailrace at Denison Dam, Lewisville Lake Ecological Learning Area, and other rivers.
For now, going to keep practicing at local ponds!
Keep the Texas Freshwater Fishery Center in Athens in mind for trout this season!
There is an opportunity to catch trout each Season to include a Bruiser that lurks in the ponds.
Which pond does it lurk in? In this video snippet, the big one that went by was in the pond named "Zebco Pond".
Places to Fish... Revisited Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center!
Answering the mail concerning questions about fishing at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, TX. We fished it a couple of weeks ago and limited out on Rainbow Trout.
Since then, had requests to provide more details on the specific places fished while we were there.

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | At the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center
More Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing... made it to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) in Athens, TX for a go at the trout stocked recently! Was an interesting round; the trout wanted "green" fishing flies and lures fished fast.
Tried various fishing flies and different retrieves before settling on a short pull, steady retrieve. Did miss a number of strikes as well as lost a few when they threw the barbless hook.
That said, did limit out plus has a great time exploring the Center. Do check out the video, and do stay till the end for the bonus.
PS: Was not certain if a fishing license was required. Later, confirmed with the TFFC that fishing is included in the price of admission... no fishing license needed!
More Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing.... Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Trout Fishing! #flyfishing
More Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing.... Made the run down the road to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens for a chance at trout. Cool place with several ponds to fish. We opted to fish the Casting Pond. Maybe next round we will give it a go at the other locations.
Bite started out good with several strikes on the Olive Near Deere; even landed a couple to put on the stringer. Then, things slowed as well as the are became clobbered with pine needles. Luckily, a slight wind clear the area later in the day, and the trout became more active, too.
In short order, we managed to put eight more on the stringer to make a total of ten! Two of us limited out; one of us had an issue with landing the trout once hooked. No worries though, was a great time to be out on a warm November day!
PS: No fishing license is required. Entrance fee includes fishing; however, if you want to harvest the trout, an additional fee of $5 is required. There are other regulations to be aware of... we includes a copy of the pamphlet that has more info in the video.
Trout Stocking Season continues here in Texas. Here are three locations to keep in mind this weekend!
Try the Catch and Keep Rig for Trout. It uses a small worm weight or egg sinker, a small snap swivel, and a size 10, 12, or 14 treble hook.
Bait it with PowerBait, Corn, or your favorite bait and adjust the line length to the hook as needed.
Also, do use it for catching and keeping trout and not for catching and releasing as the trout tend to be deep hooked. This rig is for getting food on the table.
Also, when fishing the rig, no need to use a "rip thy lips" technique. Instead, reel the slack on the line and feel the trout swimming away. Often, the trout will have hook itself!

Great time on the Blue River today. Opted for the Switch Rod knowing I would have a clobbered backcast fishing the spot I was targeting today.
Try holding your rod high when slow reeling a Super Duper for rainbow trout. Do let us know if it worked for you!
Trout stocking at our local pond - Bethany Lakes in Allen, Texas! Not able to see them stock the trout but did make it later in the evening. Lots of trout, lots of fishermen, luckily did manage to limit out!

This round I talk about Switch Rods and my practice session casting a Double Spey and a Snap C. Got lots of practice to go but still good to know the Overhead and Switch Casts are at the ready next time I take the Switch Rod.
Of course, I had to catch a fish or two... so I fished a little creek. It's a lot more rod than needed for the Sunfish I was catching. Great practice for when I target trout!

More fun fishing the Blue River in Oklahoma this past Sunday. Morning started out below freezing and overall the trout bite slowed for some of us. But, I did manage to limit out with three trout. I did see some nice size ones moving about but no takers for yours truly.
Also, did more exploring of the area north of Hughes Crossing and checked out "The Boulders" per Zach Flatt's recommendation - see his website at https://flattoutfishing.com/ for more details.
Overall, it was a nice "chill" or maybe "chillier" day but it was sure lots of fun. Do check out the video. Also, will plan a livestream to step through the video and possibly answer any questions about the trip.
