More Duck Creek Fly Fishing for Sunfish #maxcatch

Another stop on the commute this morning. Back to Duck Creek with the Foam Grasshopper Beavertail variant. Saw several Bass but no takers. Luckily, the Sunfish were active! One was a nice sized one that put a bend in the Discount Switch Rod!

Murphy City Hall Pond for Bass!

Had fun fishing Murphy City Hall pond for Bass this morning. Caught five Bass and a Bluegill. Largest Bass went 15" and 14".  Did get a cool action shot of a Bass chasing another little Bass while fighting one on the line!  Cool stuff... never had that happen before.  Even saw the little Bass jump out of the water to get away!  All went for a Foam Grasshopper!

15" Bass

8" Bluegill

14" Bass

Summer Series Concert and Tenkara Fishing Gets More Fish On The Fly!

Made it out to Bethany Lakes for more Tenkara Fishing.  Even had a bonus with music in the background from the Summer Series Concert sponsored by the City Of Allen!  Every Monday from now till June, a free concert is held in the grassy area behind Joe Farmer Recreation Center.

Great time to be had; tonight it was the sound of Sinatra playing in the air.  Good stuff... made even better wth a number of caught and  released fish on the Tenkara Rod.

Noticed the fish seemed to prefer surface flies this round with the Foam Spider, Foam Rubber Grasshopper, and the Deer Hair Bug getting bit!

Four Fish on Four Different Fishing Flies

Fished Bethany this evening.  Went with flyfishing gear again.  Windy day but managed to catch four fish - a Bluegill on a Purple Grasshopper, a Bass on a Guadalupana, a Bass on a Foam Diver, and a Bass on a White Grasshopper!  Fun stuff!

One On a Grasshopper!

Went to the Bethany this afternoon.  Brought the Four Weight and a Foam Rubber Grasshopper we tied the other day.  Windy conditions and a little warmer;  was looking for some top water action.  Had one taker... a little Bass!  Not a bad start to the upcoming Spring.

Bethany This Evening; Went with the Grasshopper.

Tied a White Caddis Dry Fly and fished Bethany this evening in hopes of another go at the Bluegill.  Turned out they did not want it; however, two Bass and two Bluegill went for the Foam Rubber Spider Variant (or Grasshopper) that worked yesterday.  Also missed two Bass as we closed out this round.  Fun stuff!

One Bass and One Sunfish On a Grasshopper Today.

A Bass and a Sunfish caught today at Bethany Lakes on a Foam Rubber Spider Variant - Grasshopper.  Bass went about 12.5" in size (camera angle makes it look shorter); holding out for a bigger Bass before sending to May's One Fishing Fly Challenge.

Bethany Lakes: April 8, 2007

Fished the upper and lower pond at Bethany Lakes.  Cloudy day but better than Friday's weather.  Had a few strikes on the upper pond, and then moved on to the lower pond.  Lower pond proved the better spot.  Caught Bluegills with the Bass still choosing to look rather than strike.

Method:  Fly-Fishing
Lures:  Black Foam Rubber Spider, White Foam Rubber Spider, Grasshopper Dryfly, Black and Red Streamer
Catch:  30+ Bluegill

Back to Bethany This Round

Back to Bethany this round.  Would have liked to kayak fish again but could not break away from work till later.  So, always can count on Bethany for a quick trip.  Caught a couple of Panfish and several Bass using a White Grasshopper Variant, and then took more on the Foam Diver.  Fun stuff!

No joy today!

Broke away for a quick trip to Bethany Lakes. Although we saw small Bass in the shallows, were not able to connect. Oh well, cannot get them every trip. FYI: Used Foam Rubber Spider Variants in a Grasshopper and Beetle pattern. Also, switched to a Black and Red Zonker and a Crappie Jig Variant. In all cases, no hook-ups. Good luck and good fishing!

Simple Fly Tying Pattern | Pat's Rubber Leg Variant

Been trying to tie the Pat’s Rubber Leg by watching others tie the pattern. So far, has been a rough go. But, did make some adjustments to one variant that has an extended body, and then used a tying method to attach the legs that is easier for yours truly… same method I use to tie legs on a Foam Spider/Grasshopper.

Do check back… plan to “test” it out at a local pond, and then tie more if it produces a fish or two. And then, hopefully… on to the Blue River and/or local stocked trout!

More to come!

Quick trip to Bethany this morning; only had a little time before other commitments pulled us away from our true love - Fishing!  Bass and Bluegill were readily taking White Foam Rubber Grasshopper Variant.  Fun stuff catching them on the surface!

Quick Trip To Bethany This Evening

Quick trip to Bethany this evening given a late start.  Fished a Foam Beetle and caught a little Bass and a Sunfish.  Lost the Beetle to a snag... switched to a White Grasshopper Variant and caught two more Bass.  No Bruisers but was fun catching them on the surface!

Bethany and Kroger Park this Round

Fished Bethany this evening.  Was hoping for more surface action  with the Foam Beetle.  Had a few strikes but no hook ups.  Switched to a White Damsel Fly and started catching Sunfish, Bluegill, and a few Bass.  After a break, decided to checkout Kroger Park across the street.  Caught a Bluegill and a Bass on a White Grasshopper Variant. Did see a couple of Bruisers on their beds; too bad they did not want to bite.  Fun stuff!

Elk Hair Caddis This Time

Started out fishing a Grasshopper, then switched to a Foam Damsel Fly as well as a Tube Popper Fly and a Balsa Popper Fly. Had strikes but just were not hooking them. Went to an Elk Hair Caddis in Size 14 and started hooking up with Bass and Bluegill!  Fun stuff, even had some good tunes in the background from the Summer Sounds Concert that the City hosts.

Six Bass and a Bluegill this Evening

Made it to Bethany this evening.  Was hoping for another try at the Koi in the Back Pond.  Sight fished to one for a while with no success.  Shifted to a White Grasshopper Variant and caught a couple of Bass and missed several more.  Then, switched to a Yellow Foam Beetle and had more fun catching Bass and a Bluegill.  Only six Bass and a Bluegill this round.  But, was a lot of fun catching them on surface,... even had one jump clear out of the water to take the Beetle!  Missed a lot more than were hooked and landed.

Tenkara Fishing Still Does Well... Lost a Bruiser Though.

Took the Tenkara Rod to Bethany this evening and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish using a Foam Rubber Grasshopper, a Purple Damsel Fly, and an Olive Damsel Fly.  Of the three, the Olive Damsel Fly did best.  Worked the shallows and had a number of strikes/misses.  Did hook into a Bruiser Catfish, fought it for several minutes, and then lost it while landing it. Line broke off... hated losing the Bruiser, hated losing the Olive Damsel Fly!!
