Stopped by the Village for a go at the Bass. Fished a Guadalupana, BH Olive Wooley Bugger, and Brown Damsel Fly Variant. Caught several Bass on the Guadalupana but ended up losing it when a Bruiser struck! Went with the Wooley Bugger and caught more Bass and then lucked in to some Bruiser Bluegill,... largest ones went 8.5" with wide bodies giving them extra heft! Ended the outing with one more Bass on the Damsel Fly Variant. Glad to see the Village made it through last season's drought conditions. PS: Since the Bluegill met the minimum 8" length, have posted them on the COAF Leader Board!

I take my girls fishing (worms and bobbers)and fish at Russel Park off McDermott. I would like to start fishing with lures so they could try that but I am a total novice; can you recommend some for fishing at Bethany that will be the least likely to get caught up a lot?
ReplyDeleteHi Joe, normally would suggest a Roadrunner but after a quick trip fishing Bethany this evening, recommend a 1/16 oz Black Roostertail with a silver blade. Algae is thick, so ended up fishing areas that were clear of algae or the algae was still submerged. Caught mainly little Bass and Bluegill. Slow retrieve that keeps the blade spinning and the lure above the algae and just below the surface. Also, went with Ultralight Spinning Gear to allow easier casting. Hope this helps! PS: Will post pictures of this evening's quick trip shortly.
