Kroger Park and Bluegills

Fished Kroger Park this evening.  Brought one fishing fly - a Guadalupana.  Caught a few Bluegill with a Bruiser or two mixed in the bunch! Then, checked out the fish fry that the Bass were feeding on.  Going to need to tie some Damsel Flies for the next round. Lots of fun.

Slow Morning, Clear Water

Was a slow morning at Bethany.  Water was really clear and the fish were selective.  Had one Bass on the line but came off while landing it near the bank.  Then, had several Bass look and turn away at the last moment.  Finally, had two Sunfish take a Guadalupana,

Four Fish on Four Different Fishing Flies

Fished Bethany this evening.  Went with flyfishing gear again.  Windy day but managed to catch four fish - a Bluegill on a Purple Grasshopper, a Bass on a Guadalupana, a Bass on a Foam Diver, and a Bass on a White Grasshopper!  Fun stuff!

More Bruiser Bluegill at the Village and a few Bass

Decided to hit the Village again before the rain arrived.  Slower action compared to yesterday but was still a good time.  Caught more Bruiser Bluegill (8" or better in length) and Bass.  All struck the Guadalupana!

Village Holding Well... Bass and Bruiser Bluegill!

Stopped by the Village for a go at the Bass.  Fished a Guadalupana, BH Olive Wooley Bugger, and Brown Damsel Fly Variant.  Caught several Bass on the Guadalupana but ended up losing it when a Bruiser struck!  Went with the Wooley Bugger and caught more Bass and then lucked in to some Bruiser Bluegill,... largest ones went 8.5" with wide bodies giving them extra heft!  Ended the outing with one more Bass on the Damsel Fly Variant.  Glad to see the Village made it through last season's drought conditions.  PS: Since the Bluegill met the minimum 8" length, have posted them on the COAF Leader Board!

Bass on a 3 Weight; Catfish on a MadDragon!

Fished Bethany this afternoon using a 3 Weight Fly Rod.  Caught 4 little Bass using a White Damsel Fly and a Guadalupana.  Came back in the evening and fished for Catfish.  Caught three Catfish on Doughbait using the MadDragon Carp Rod we ordered from Bass Pro Shops.  Really like this Carp Rod!

No Catfish This Round,... Bass and Bluegill, instead.

Started out fishing for Catfish at Bethany.  Had a few bites but no hookups while the sky was overcast.  Soon as the sun broke through the clouds and things cleared up, the bites quit.  Did see little Bass lurking in beds and other cover.  Also, saw a few Bluegill hovering in their beds.

Caught mainly little Bass and Bluegill ranging from 5" to 7" in length.  Caught on  them on various flies to include the Guadalupana, Caddis Fly, Olive Wooley Bugger, and Dry Fly.  Was hoping to catch a Bass on a Dry Fly but could not match the pattern - Dragon Flies!  Bass were jumping out of the water to catch them hovering over the water!

Cold, Cold, Cold, and Windy, Too... Caught a Bass Though!

Fished Bethany the early evening and braved the cold.  Ended up getting several strikes and one hookup on a little Bass.  Did have one that looked decent take a Guadalupana but broke off immediately.  Worse lost a Damsel Fly and Wooley Bugger, too!  Guess it's back to the fly tying table to make more.

Guadalupana and Tenkara Rod Gets a Bass at Bethany!

Fished Bethany Lakes' Waterfall this evening.  Only had a little time, so went with the Tenkara Rod and one fishing fly - a Guadalupana like we used on the Guadalupe River last year.  Water level was up from the recent rains and the water was flowing well in the Canal and the Waterfall.  Had a hookup on the second cast - a little Bass.  Good stuff!

Let's Start 2012 with Two Sunfish!

Could not let the day pass without trying to fish.  Was able to make it to Bethany this afternoon.  Looks like the Trout are done for the Season but was able to get two fish to bite!  So, let's start 2012 with two Sunfish (used a GRHEN trailer behind a Guadalupana).  FUN STUFF!

Guadalupana... Gets a Bass at Bethany!

Read an article in Southwest Flyfishing magazine about the Guadalupe River.  Article recommended a fly called the Guadalupana for Rainbow Trout.  Looked like a Wooley Bugger but tied with Peacock Herl for the body and wrapped in Gold Wire.

Decided to make one and test it at Bethany.  Colder temps compared to yesterday but at least the sun was out.  Also, went ahead and tied a couple of BH Antron Streamers in Olive to go with the Guadalupana.

Fished the Guadalupana slow and under a strike indicator.  Managed to catch one Bass. Will have to keep this one ready in the flybox.  Like the "fishy" look that the Peacock Herl gives the fly!
