February 2, 2009 - Out and About

Moderate paced run this morning around Celebration Park made for a good start this week. Cold morning but bearable with warm gear and the promise of a warmer afternoon. Route went by the East Pond. Stopped for a picture and to enjoy the sunrise.

February 1, 2009 - No Running, More Fishing, Superbowl.

Out and about early this morning.  No running today - time to rest and recover from the aches and pains.

Running shoes and treadmill workouts have helped reduce the aches; will see what the next week's weather brings.  If not too cold, will opt for an outdoor workout.

Trout fishing has been good at Waterloo Park Pond in Denison.  Fishing buddy and I limited out yesterday and this morning.  The Park's pond received a Trout stocking last weekend; seems the fish have settled in and are actively feeding. Posted more info on our weblog.

Have a few errands to run today, else will be watching the Superbowl; mainly for the commercials.  Hoped to see the Cowboys this year but the Season did not go well.  Maybe next year!

Stay Active, and Good Luck and Good Fishing!

Another Trip to Waterloo.

Another trip to Waterloo Park Pond in Denison this morning. Fishing buddy and I lucked out with limits of 5 Trout each using a Carolina Rigged Corn set-up again. Largest went about 11" in size. Tried flyfishing briefly when we noticed a lot of surface activity. Did not get any strikes, so we went back to bait. Checked stomach contents; most were empty but a few had remnants of Powerbait it Chartreuse and Pink. Yesterday's catch had mostly Corn with some Powerbait Nuggets in Chartreuse and Orange. Opted to stay with Corn, cheaper and still getting limits and/or consistent strikes. Today's Catch Click-on DFW Fishing News for more fishing information in the Metroplex area. January 31, 2009 - Two Limits of Trout at Waterloo!

Lucked out at Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. Fishing buddy and I caught a limit of 5 Trout each using a Carolina Rigged Corn set-up. Largest went 12" in size. Steady strikes with a lot of missed fish. Luckily managed to set the hook enough times to limit out.
Today's Catch.

January 31, 2009 - Two Limits At Waterloo!

Worked out early, and headed out on a fishing trip to Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. Fishing buddy and I limited out with 5 each. Some bigger Trout than the last trip. Will post pictures on the fishing Blog later today!

January 29, 2009 - Celebration Park East Pond

Quick trip this evening to Celebration Park. Caught a couple of small Catfish on Bread and spinfishing gear. Catfish were biting despite the cold temps. Also, noticed activity on the surface as they picked at Bread floating on the surface.

January 25, 2009 - Coffee Break; Other Thoughts!

Enjoyed a cup of coffee at Starbucks this morning. Today's plans are to let the feet rest and don't run. Would liked to have fished for Trout given the cold weather but family duties preclude fishing.

That said, thoughts are Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area and River Park would be good opportunities for Trout. Also, reports from the Field indicate White Bass are in the area creeks.

Denison Dam reports have been spotty. Given the drive time, suggest checking out the real time release schedule to confirm when water is flowing. Denison Dam Real Time Release.

All for now.

January 24, 2009 - Chilly Today!

Chilly today! Opted to stay indoors which meant no fishing and an indoor run on the treadmill. Did make a trip to the local library to pick up some reading material. Going to hibernate today.

January 23, 2009 - Bethany Lakes

Fished Bethany Lakes Back Pond to get in a quick trip while the warm weather was upon us. Caught a few Bluegill flyfishing a Bead Head Nymph. Waited a few seconds before retrieving line, and then used a slow retrieve to get strikes. Bluegill Today.

January 22, 2009 - Just Sunfish!

Took a quick trip to Bethany Creek Park Pond and caught a few Sunfish. Warm weather made for a comfortable outing. Fish were small but fought well on light gear. Used flyfishing gear and Nymphs to hook them in the shallows. Nothing special but good to get out after a hectic week.

Done For the Today, But Oh By The Way.

Am done for the day, but oh by the way.... while out and about, passed by Lake Lavon Dam. Noted the water was not flowing, and further downriver no water movement by the railroad trellis. Looks like the lack of rain continues to impact the area.

Bethany Ridge Park

Stopped by Bethany Ridge Park around Noon today. Construction and other factors may have impacted the fishing.

Cloudy water and shifting structure - more shallows than before. Going to take a few trips to figure the pattern.

Out and About: January 18, 2009

Another morning and out and about with a run that passed by Bethany Ridge Park Pond, Bethany Lakes Lower Pond (by Joe Farmer Recreation Center), and Bethany Lakes Estates Pond (HOA).

Earlier it was reported that the pier at Bethany Ridge Park Pond was being worked on and some fishing spots would be affected. Closer look of the work showed the construction taking place was not impacting the pier or fishing spots. Good news fishermen!

Bethany Lakes Lower Pond showed minimal activity and water levels remain low. Looks as if the lack of rain is making an impact on the area ponds.

Bethany Lakes Estates Pond is maintained by the HOA, so private property rules apply. Does look promising. Even better, if the fish are not biting, a Sonic is nearby for food and drinks.

Route had a slight incline on the backside but overall consisted of flat and level ground. Good for this recreational runner.

All for now.

Out and About: January 17, 2009

Was out and about this morning. Went on a run that started at Celebration Park, through a few subdivisions, and by several ponds of interest.

Moderate pace allowed for a few pictures to be taken while on the run. The pictures listed below show Summerfield pond and Auburn Springs pond.

Have not fished Summerfield, a privately maintained pond managed by the HOA. Have fished Auburn Springs; caught Bluegill/Sunfish but have heard others taking Bass and Catfish.

All for now.

Summary of Lures/Bait Used for Trout (1/16/09)

An updated summary of lures/baits used for Trout is posted below. The results are based on recent postings and observations in the Field. The ">" indicates a post or an observation of the lure/bait being used successfully.

Reports from the Field indicate Bob Jones Park (Grapevine), Waterloo Park (Denison), and River Park (Fort Worth) are good locations for Trout in the area.

Bethany Lakes (Allen) and Greenbriar (Fort Worth) have cooled off and action remains slow or non-existent.

Fort Richardson (Jacksboro) and Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area (LLELA) remain open with no updates received since the last report.

Some action reported at South Lakes Park Pond and the Brazos River.

Overall, bait continues to produce. However, reports from the Guadalupe continue to suggest Wooley Buggers and Nymphs, Silver Super Dupers, and White Rooster Tails. Reports from the Brazos are also suggesting Wooley Buggers in size 10/12. Good luck and good fishing! Cold Temps and Suggested Trout Spots.

Cold temperatures today are having a negative impact on outdoor activity. From a runner's point of view, have opted to stay inside and workout on the treadmill.

From a fisherman's point of view, bundle up! Word from the Metroplex Field Team indicates Trout action at River Park in Fort Worth and Bob Jones in Grapevine. Of note is Bob Jones which received a Trout Stocking yesterday.

Suggested baits are Corn, Powerbait, and Earthworms. For fly fishermen, Olive Wooly Buggers in size 14 seem to be attractive.

Stay active; good luck and good fishing!

Ditto

Ditto for this morning.  Another cold one with an Artic Blast forecasted tomorrow. Temperature was in the mid 20's when we went out.  Ran by Celebration Park and headed to the Lost Creek Subdivision.  Noted a series of three ponds with fountains around the 1.6 mile point.  Heard others speak of Bass and Catfish caught in the ponds during the Summer.  Beware though, it is private property and posted as a catch and release only lake.  Continued running past Marion Elementary and then to Reed Elementary, taking the running trail that parallels a creek.  Another route with flat ground and minimal street crossings/intersections.

Cold Morning

Out and about this morning. Colder than yesterday with temps reported in the upper 20's.  Ran by Shadow Lakes Trail; water was clear but no fish were noted.  Continued to Bethany Lakes; no surface activity observed, looks as if the Upper Pond (Pond C) is done this season for Trout.  Passing Bethany Creek Pond, water was clear with small Sunfish hovering near the drainage canal/feeder creek.  Easy route for running with flat ground and minimal street crossings/intersections.

Out to Lunch

Drove by Bethany Ridge Park on the corner of Bethany and Allen Heights in Allen at lunch today.  Noticed ongoing construction near the picnic area and fishing pier.  Looks like an island/peninsula is being built up.  Cross our fingers the construction is completed before Spring to allow time for the area to recover.  Say goodbye to the drop-off point near the pier.

Out and About This AM.

Was out and about this morning and ran by Celebration Park's East and North Ponds.  Water levels are lower but did observe some surface activity in the East Pond; suspect Bluegill/Sunfish.  Continued running on a route that passed Reed Elementary and continued on the jogging/walking trail that runs along the small creek to the South of the school.  Creek is a shallow water creek that holds small fish but have seen an occasional Bass - fingerling-sized.  All for now.
