April 5, 2009 - Sunfish on a BH Pheasant Tail Nymph!

Cold and windy with temps in the high 40's this morning. Decided to fish a Bead Head Pheasant Tail Nymph to scout for Sunfish. No luck at the ponds at Haggard Park and Suncreek Park in Plano and Allen, respectively. Did catch several Long-Eared Sunfish in the creek by Harrington Park in Plano. Fish ranged from 5" to 6" in size and struck the fishing fly on a slow retrieve using short pulls on the flyline. Click-on DFW Fishing News for more fishing information in the Metroplex area. Two Ponds and a Creek.

Out and About This Morning.

Ran this morning. A lot of wind and more brewing. Did check out Bethany Lakes Upper Pond. Minimal activity noted. Bass seem lockjawed. Could be the wind. Could be my lure selection. Will make adjustments and post updates.

March 31, 2009 - Archgate Park in Plano.

Checked out Bethany Lakes in the early afternoon. No luck flyfishing a Wooley Bugger. Stopped by Archgate Park in Plano in the early evening. Caught one Bluegill on a Wooley Bugger, and then several more on a Bead Head Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph. One Bruiser Bluegill came in at just under 8" in size! Bethany Lakes - Upper Pond

Checked out the Upper Pond and noticed a lot of floating debris near the pier area. Tried to fish a streamers but could not get a good cast due to the wind. Also, had trouble with hang-ups and snags. Going to give it a rest until the wind calms and the temps warm up more.

Good luck and good fishing!

Bethany Lakes Lower Pond

Checked out Bethany Lakes yesterday. The Lower Pond's water level remains low despite the recent rain. Spillway is not working properly as water is flowing around it due to erosion. Reported the issue to Parks and Recreation.

Did fish the area despite the strong wind, cold temps, and low water. Surprised to get a few strikes working the surface.

March 27, 2009 - Bass on a Foam Rubber Spider Variant

Back to Bethany Lakes for more Bass. Started flyfishing an Olive Wooley Bugger and promptly lost it to a sumberged snag.
Checked the flybox and noticed no more Olive Wooley Buggers. Tied on a Foam Rubber Spider Variant in hopes of topwater action.
Success! Caught one Bass that was 12" in size and had a number of other strikes but no solid hook-ups. Will have to try the topwater action again once the front passes through. At the Movies.

Kept active with an early morning run, and then a quick trip to Bethany Lakes and caught a Bass.

Closed out the day by taking in a movie. Watched the movie "Knowing". Not sure why it made number one this past weekend. Preferred "I Love You Man" over it.

Posted reviews of both movies on our movie review blog. Check it out some time.

March 24, 2009 - Quick Trip to Bethany

Made a quick trip to Bethany Lakes between the rain showers and fished the Upper Pond (horseshoe-shaped pond). Caught a 12" Bass flyfishing an Olive Wooly Bugger. Had another strike but was too slow in setting the hook. Fish were active; just did not have enough time to fish it thoroughly. (Note: The spot on its eye is a leaf). March 22, 2009 - Russell Creek Park in Plano

Fished Russell Creek Park in Plano this morning. Cool morning with temperatures in the mid-50s and cloudy skies. Caught three Bass ranging 10" to 11" in size. Had several other strikes but failed to set the hook. Used flyfishing gear to work the shallows to about 20 yards out.

All were caught using an Olive Wooley Bugger with one Bass caught less that a yard from the bank. The other two struck at about 10 yards from the bank.

No bruisers today but still fun! Click-on DFW Fishing News for more fishing information in the Metroplex area. Or, go to Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing - Community Lakes for trout fishing information on community lakes in the area.

Russell Creek Park in Plano

Fished Russell Creek Park in Plano this morning. Caught 3 small Bass ranging 10" to 11" in size. No bruisers but still fun. Did get "attacked" by a couple of Muscovy Ducks while fishing. Suspect I was near a nest when one decided to nip at my ankle. Will post fish pictures/details on our weblog shortly.

Beware of Ducks!
