Bethany Lakes - June 19, 2009

Had a go at Bethany Lakes this afternoon. Started out at the Back Pond without a strike. Opted to cast a few fishing flies in the Feeder Creek and hooked 6 Sunfish. All were caught on a Yellow Foam Rubber Spider Variant. See picture below. FYI: Started a bulletin board for our readers to post comments about fishing in the area. Feel free to comment. March 27, 2009 - Bass on a Foam Rubber Spider Variant

Back to Bethany Lakes for more Bass. Started flyfishing an Olive Wooley Bugger and promptly lost it to a sumberged snag.

Checked the flybox and noticed no more Olive Wooley Buggers. Tied on a Foam Rubber Spider Variant in hopes of topwater action.

Success! Caught one Bass that was 12" in size and had a number of other strikes but no solid hook-ups. Will have to try the topwater action again once the front passes through. March 8, 2009 - A Bass, A Crappie, and Bluegill.

Went back to Bethany Lakes for a chance at the Bass. Decided to use flyfishing gear and managed to catch a Bass, a Crappie, and a few Bluegill. First used a Green Foam Rubber Spider and had strikes on the surface from the Bluegill. But, was not able to set the hook fast enough. Tied a White Spider Variant and caught and landed fish. Lunch Time Quick Trip - October 20, 2008

Fished Bethany Lakes' Feeder Creek and Back Pond at lunch today. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish flyfishing a Foam Rubber Spider Variant. Had several strikes from small Bass and saw others chasing baitfish in the shallows. Tried a Wooly Spider and an Olive Wooley Bugger but did not get any solid hook-ups. Fish seemed slow to strike despite the warmer noon temps. Switched to the Foam Rubber Spider Variant and was able to get them to hit on the surface. Sampling of today's catch posted below. Bethany Lakes - October 17, 2008

Fished Bethany Lakes Lower Pond at lunch today. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish flyfishing the Wooly Spider, Bead Eye Teeny Spider, and a Foam Rubber Spider Variant. Fish seemed to like a slow sinking fishing fly. Did see several Bass chasing baitfish in the shallows but did not get any strikes. Pictures of today's catch posted below. Today's Catch. Bass and Two Bluegill.

Fished Bethany Lakes' Lower Pond this evening. Caught a 13.5" Bass and a couple of Bluegill flyfishing a White Foam Rubber Spider Variant.

Fished Bethany Lakes this morning. Caught two small Bass, hooked another Bass but lost him when landing, and caught a number of Bluegill and Sunfish. Bass were hitting on a Wooly Spider - Bead Eye. Bethany Lakes/Wooly Spider Clouser - September 21, 2008

Fished Bethany Lakes this morning. More of the usual except hooked and lost a nice Bass. Was flyfishing a variant of the Wooly Spider; modified by adding weighted eyes and tied Clouser-style.

Calling it a Wooly Spider Clouser. Was using a 4lbs test tippet and subsequently broke-off. Switched to the Foam Rubber Spider variant and caught Bluegill/Sunfish. Pictures posted below.

Wooly Spider Fishing Fly

Bethany Lakes' Back Pond - September 11, 2008

Fished Bethany Lakes' Back Pond this evening. Caught Bluegill/Sunfish and four Bass flyfishing. Used a Prince Nymph and a Yellow Foam Rubber Spider Variant with most taken on the Spider. Pictures posted below.

Fished Bethany Lakes this morning flyfishing the Lower, Upper, and Main Ponds. Cool morning made for a comfortable outing. Caught small Bluegill/Sunfish and four Bass flyfishing a Foam Rubber Spider Variant. Bass ranged from 3" to 13.5" in size. Pictures posted below. Russell Creek Park - August 28, 2008

Fished the pond at Russell Creek Park in the late afternoon/early evening. Caught a small Bass and Bluegill/Sunfish on a White Foam Rubber Spider Variant. Fishing partner caught two Bass and Bluegill/Sunfish using a Green Foam Rubber Spider Variant. Also, saw a small alligator that others mentioned on the fishing forums. No joy today!

Broke away for a quick trip to Bethany Lakes. Although we saw small Bass in the shallows, were not able to connect. Oh well, cannot get them every trip. FYI: Used Foam Rubber Spider Variants in a Grasshopper and Beetle pattern. Also, switched to a Black and Red Zonker and a Crappie Jig Variant. In all cases, no hook-ups. Good luck and good fishing!

Russell Creek Park Pond - August 24, 2008

Fished Russell Creek Park this morning. Park has a pond and is located in the city of Plano. Caught Bluegill and Sunfish flyfishing a Foam Rubber Spider Variant. Pictures posted below.
