Warmer Temps and Bluegill/Sunfish are Nesting, Great Time Catching Them on the Tenkara Rod!

Warmer temps made for a comfortable outing at Bethany Lakes.  Observed Bluegill/Sunfish nesting in the shallows.  Brought the Tenkara Rod and a White Foam Spider.  Good news... surface action was happening!  Had a great time catching (and releasing the scrappy fighters).  Caught 24 fish, two were little Bass.  Else it was Bluegill and Sunfish!

  1. Thanks for the fishing update! We are planning on going out today.

I hate when people ask me about this.. but I am so new to fishing in Allen, I have not clue about the fish in the area. Are these fish that you just throw back in, or are these good eating fish?

    Thanks

    Ray

  2. Hi Ray,
Bethany Lakes is catch and release except for Trout that are stocked in the Winter. Still alot of fun catching them.

Thanks for checking out our Blog!

  3. Sounds good! Im planning on bring my 3 yr old DD with me who loves to fish. But shes impatient! (Surprise) Do you have any tips on getting quick bites in Bethany lakes? I was planning on using worms with 3ft under a bobber.

  4. Hi Ray,
A bobber and worm is good. But, would recommend a Foam Spider to work the nesting Bluegill.

They are more interested in protecting their territory than eating.

If you don't flyfish, use a clear plastic bobber setup to cast the Foam Spider over the beds!

Do a search on this Blog for "Suggested Rig for Fishing Flies without a Fly Rod". It describes the clear plastic bobber setup.

    Good luck and good fishing!
