December 7, 2025 – Allen, TX
This morning at Bethany Lakes, I nearly froze my fingers off—but the trout didn’t care one bit.
It was misty, bone-chilling cold at 43°F, and this warm-weather Texan was seriously second-guessing his life choices... until the first rainbow trout slammed my line like it owed me money.
What Went Down
- Spot: Bethany Lakes – Main Pond C
- Bait: Gold Super Duper (still a classic killer)
- Rig: Ultralight 7ft Ugly Stik, Shimano Curado BFS-XG Reel, 20lb Youzuri braided line + 10lb Stern Fluorocarbon leader
- Catches: 2 Rainbows (both around 10” – feisty little fighters!)
Conditions
- Temp: 43–46°F
- Wind: N 10–15 mph, with occasional mist rolling in
- Vibe: Pure winter punishment… until the bite turned on.
Average Angler Tip
- Hand warmers + thermos = survival. Coffee = mandatory.
- Pro move: Sight cast to visible schools and let the lure free-fall. The trout were hugging the bottom until something shiny fluttered down like breakfast.
